If you want your split system to last more than a few summers, here is a quick "cheat sheet" for keeping it happy:
1. The "Every Month" Quickie (DIY)
Pop the front cover and slide out those mesh filters. If they look like a dryer lint trap, your AC is gasping for air! Give them a quick vacuum or a rinse in the sink.
Pro tip: Make sure they are 100% dry before putting them back, otherwise you’re basically inviting mold to move in.
2. The "Backyard Check" (Every 3 Months)
Take a walk outside to the condenser unit. If it’s buried under dead leaves, overgrown bushes, or spiderwebs, it’s working twice as hard as it needs to. Give it some breathing room!
3. The "Deep Health Check" (Once a Year) I can send you a reminder when it's due..
Once a year (ideally before the heat really kicks in), get a pro out, thats Me! I will check the stuff you can’t see—like refrigerant levels, electrical bits, and deep-cleaning the gunk out of the internal coils. It’s way cheaper than replacing the whole unit!
Common Red Flags:
Water dripping down your indoor wall (Blocked drain!)
A musty, "old sock" smell (Bacteria/mold buildup)
It’s taking way longer than usual to chill the room.
