Behind every strong project outcome are people who put in the work to get it there.

This week, we wanted to recognise Farhan Husain, Project Manager, and Peter for their support on one of our recent projects in Port Hedland.

Their work played an important role in helping support the commercial recovery of the project, bringing focus, care and practical thinking to a challenging piece of work.

Hicks was proud to attend Port Hedland’s first-ever Blak Coffee gathering. The room brought together people from across the region for conversations grounded in connection, opportunity and local knowledge.

Blak Coffee first started in Queensland and has since grown into a national grassroots movement, creating spaces for Aboriginal business owners, professionals and community members to connect, yarn and build strong networks 🤝🏾

Hosted by Sharon Todd, the gathering created space for practical conversations between people who understand the Port Hedland business landscape.

Whether it was connecting with the right person inside a larger organisation, learning where to go for support with legal documents or business paperwork, or meeting people who can open the door to new opportunities, the morning showed how valuable these local connections can be.

A big thank you to everyone involved in bringing Blak Coffee to Port Hedland and creating such a welcoming space. We’re grateful to have been part of it and look forward to seeing it continue to grow.

Civil and mining has traditionally been a male-heavy industry, but Hicks is proud to have strong women contributing to the work and decisions that keep the business growing.

As Hicks has grown, so has the focus on female employment, training, workforce development and creating real opportunities across the business.

We had the privilege of serving the BBQ at the South Hedland NAIDOC Week Opening event this week ❤️ 💛 🖤

As a 100% Aboriginal-owned business, we are proud to stand with our community, proud of our culture, and proud to play a small part in a week that means so much to our people and our region.

The evening was filled with music, dance, culture and connection, and it was a powerful reminder of what this week is all about.

This year’s theme, 50 Years of Deadly, recognises the strength, resilience and leadership of Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander people, past and present.

To everyone who helped bring the event together, and to everyone who came along to celebrate, thank you.

Small things can make a big difference in community.

For some young people in Port Hedland, getting to and from events can be the thing that stops them from joining in.

So, when Hicks had the opportunity to support the Youth Involvement Council with transport, it meant a lot to be part of it.

This bus donation is about more than getting from A to B.

It helps more young people show up, join in, be seen and feel part of what is happening in their own community.
