FIELD FRIDAY: World Supercross edition!

Our team has been at McMahon Stadium this week, importing and placing material, and preparing the track for the FIM World Supercross Championship World Supercross Canadian GP this Saturday.

Not familiar with World Supercross? These high energy dirtbike races take place in stadiums across the world, on unique custom built tracks specially designed for each stadium. Multiple races occur throughout the night, with riders earning points and position, chasing the overall GP win.

We hauled in clean track building material, and placed it atop plywood to protect the turf below. The course was built@to design, groomed, and is now ready to rock. Once the event is finished, our crew will be back at the stadium dismantling the track and exporting the material off site, running all night until the job is done - ready for the Calgary Stampeders to take on the BC Lions the following Thursday.

When we’re not building communities, we’re building race tracks 🤘

Long weekend’s almost here, and honestly, we’ve been looking forward to this one.

Before we all scatter for the long weekend, remember: You earned this. Every early morning, every hot afternoon on site, every job we knocked out this summer, that’s what got us here.

So for those with some of these days off, go enjoy it. Get out on the water, fire up the grill, spend time with your people - whatever your long weekend looks like, make it a good one.

The same way we watch out for each other on site, watch out for each other this weekend too. We want everybody back on Tuesday, rested and in one piece.

Tools of the trade: The Laser Receiver

The partner piece to our rotary laser level, which is mounted on a grade rod. This device is how our crews determine grade by reading measurements from the laser.

Once the rotary laser sends out its reference plane, this receiver locks onto that plane and tells us instantly whether we're above, below, or right on grade.

A precise readout that keeps our elevations honest on every excavation, installation, foundation, and grading job. A small tool, with massive responsibility.

Everything we build starts with getting this right.

Running a machine this size next to a building that just went up, there's no room for guessing.

Utilizing a spotter every single time we're digging close to a structure, is the standard. Having an extra set of eyes on the ground watching blind spots, checking clearances, signaling to the operator the entire time that bucket is in motion.

People think a spotter slows the job down. It doesn't. What it does is protect everything, the foundation, the crew, and every bit of work that's already gone into that build.

Any operator can run a machine, doing it safely in tight spaces like this is absolutely essential.

FIELD FRIDAY: Calgary Metal Recycling - COMPLETE

We wrapped up a commercial asphalt paving project at the Calgary Metal Recycling yard in Southeast Calgary this week. Our team handled stripping and removal of topsoil and organics, excavation, grading, 75mm and 25mm gravel sub base installation, A mix asphalt base course, and a finished it all off with a top lift of City B asphalt built to spec for heavy industrial traffic.

Calgary Metal Recycling Inc. has been a market leader in metal recycling in western Canada for over 90 years, evolving from a hide trading business near Fort Calgary into the city's full service scrap metal operation, keeping Calgary's scrap metal out of the landfill and recycling it back into use. From hides to heavy metal. A Calgary story worth its weight in gold!

Tattoos, wrenches, and elbow grease.

That's what keeps our equipment running and our projects moving. Our field mechanics show up and solve problems, whether it's routine service or a critical repair holding up production. They're a cornerstone of everything we do.

And truth be told, wrenching on big iron never stops being fun.

It's FIELD FRIDAY - Stampede Edition 🤠

Featuring photos from Joshua Barnett, Earthworks Foreman at our Village Towns project at Mahogany Lake.

Two years into this project for our client partner Hopewell Residential Calgary which has 21 building multi family project with 155 units. This week our team completed excavation on building 12 and cut in the trench line for utilities, exposed the existing sanitary and 20mm water line, and pulled the ramp out of the excavation for building 13.

Next up: backfill at buildings 12, 13 and 16 and detail work.

Steady progress during Stampede, now that pumping stormwater isn't a daily part of the program!

Thanks for the photos Joshua.
