McDonald Brothers Construction

McDonald Brothers Construction General Contractor in the Ottawa area servicing the Industrial, Commercial and Institutional Sectors

McDonald Brothers Construction - established in 1988 - is a General Contractor based in the Ottawa area which services primarily the Industrial, Commercial, and Institutional (ICI) sectors. What started out as two brothers with a passion for building has quickly grown into an established construction firm servicing the Ottawa region. We are best known for our extensive work with medical facilities

, school additions, recreational facilities and complex renovations. If your children attend an elementary school in the Ottawa region built within the last 5 years, there is a good chance we had a hand in putting it there. More recently, as our operations continue to diversify, our experience in large-scale new construction has been increasing significantly. Our guiding principle is that most effective way to grow our business is to secure lasting relationships with our clients, and build each project with a mind to returning for the next phase or addition. Our Philosophy:
We believe above all else that passion for building is transcendent. Technical knowledge can be developed with experience, but creative ability is contingent on having sincere enthusiasm for each and every project. While we place strong emphasis on superior quality, attentive service, competitive cost and aggressive scheduling, our key to success is in creative problem solving and ingenuity. Moreover, success for MBC is measured not only by the achievements of the past, but also in the understanding that even with two decades in the industry, progress is an ongoing concept.

Renovating an occupied school requires more than just good construction planning. With students and staff using the building throughout the school year, every phase of the work has to be carefully coordinated to maintain a safe learning environment while keeping the project moving forward.

The Garneau School façade, completed in 2023 in collaboration with Confluence Architecture, is a great example of how MBC approaches those complexities, delivering a refreshed, modern exterior with care and precision.

The G. Tackaberry and Family Home was a complex project, with a lot to coordinate and a high level of detail throughout. Working from Hobin Architecture's design, we focused on carrying that vision through construction, right down to the millwork and finishing touches.

It all came together as a stunning 192-bed long-term care facility built to serve the Athens community for years to come.

At 20 Dunbar Court, designed by JoT Architecture, part of the conversation early on was how to integrate new technologies in a way that actually adds value to the building.

Solar panels provide clean, renewable energy, help reduce operating costs, and offer reliable performance over the long term. They also support overall building efficiency and contribute to a lower environmental footprint.

Looking at systems like solar isn’t just a design decision. It needs to be reviewed during pre-construction. Things like orientation, panel tilt, and how the system ties into the building all affect performance.

That early coordination is part of how we approach our work at MBC. By taking the time to study different options, we’re able to support better long-term performance and make sure these systems work the way they’re intended to.

Last Friday, a group from MBC joined the Ottawa Construction Association team at a Habitat for Humanity Ottawa development.

It was a rewarding day spent working alongside volunteers from across the industry, meeting new people, sharing plenty of smiles, and helping with a project that will make a real difference for a local family.

We're grateful to have been part of it. Habitat for Humanity helps families achieve homeownership, and it felt good to lend a hand toward a goal that's so important to the community.

Thanks to everyone who helped make it such a great day!

Excavation is underway at 120 Reuben Crescent in Kemptville, where MBC is providing Construction Management services for a new residential development on behalf of New Commons Housing Trust. The project has been designed by CSV Architects.

The development includes two residential buildings with a total of 109 units and underground parking. We are looking forward to seeing the site continue to take shape over the coming months.

56 Capilano was an important project for MBC. Now that construction is complete, this image reflects the effort that went into carrying CSV Architects’ and Salus' vision all the way through.

From start to finish, the focus was on coordination, staying on schedule, and delivering a high-quality affordable housing building that will serve the community for years to come.
