Just 2 robots doing the boring job of labelling. 🤖🤖

The challenge? Applying flat adhesive labels consistently to a curved, irregular surface. Now imagine doing that by hand. All day. Trying to get every label straight, smooth, properly positioned, and consistent. Not exactly the job anyone is fighting to keep. 😅

We tried a few different machine concepts before landing on this solution: two collaborative robots working in sync to get the job done. Most of the time, automation isn't about replacing a complicated process; it's about taking a repetitive, frustrating job off someone's hands and letting the robots do what robots are really good at: the same thing, over and over and over again.

Palletizers are one of the most common automation applications out there. After all, almost every industry has boxes, bags, pails, cases, trays, or products that need to end up on a pallet. That doesn't mean an off-the-shelf solution will work.

The right palletizing system depends on your footprint, product weight, package size, throughput requirements, pallet patterns, number of SKUs, available utilities, operator interaction, environmental requirements, and how it needs to fit into the rest of your production line. We delivered this machine-tending robot a while ago, and it’s still going strong. 💪 We get to see it every now and then for that **preventive maintenance thing everyone definitely remembers to schedule**. 😉

A little inspection, maintenance and TLC can go a long way in keeping robotic cells doing their job for years.

And for us? It’s always nice to visit our old robot pals and see what they’ve been up to.

Sometimes suction cups just won’t cut it. For this palletizing system, we needed to handle heavy bags of powder, fit everything into a very limited footprint, and make the system suitable for washdown.

We designed custom robot tooling that picks each bag from underneath the conveyor, locks it securely in place, and carefully positions it on the pallet. Once complete, the pallet receives the cardboard top and moves to the wrapping station.

A cell retrofit is coming to life at one of our U.S. customers this week. Michael, one of our Mechanical Designers, and Zane, our mech shop superstar, are on site getting everything done ;)

Of course, there’s a whole Eascan crew behind every moving robot. Design, programming, electrical, mechanical, fabrication, testing, and all the little things that somehow become very important at 4 p.m. on install day. 😅

This summer, Kohan joined Eascan to spend time learning, researching, and exploring the world of industrial automation before heading off to the University of Waterloo this fall.

With an outstanding academic record, a passion for STEM, and endless curiosity, he's been getting involved in projects around the shop, asking thoughtful questions, and helping us explore new technologies. We're proud to play a small part in helping shape the next generation of automation engineers and innovators.
