9 - Polarization Control of AlScN piezoelectric films in high-volume production

Future wireless systems will require RF filters that operate at much higher frequencies than today. Periodically poled AlScN piezoelectric layers offer a new way to achieve this by enabling higher order acoustic modes without reducing film thickness.

Evatec has demonstrated in situ polarization control of AlScN thin films on the CLUSTERLINE® 200 platform, achieved without vacuum break and within a single tool. This approach supports scalable manufacturing of high frequency RF filters for next generation wireless communication.

A few months ago, we shared an image of our very first 3D‑printed parts and invited you to guess what you were seeing.

Since then, the project has continued to move forward. The latest models clearly show the transition from individual components to assembled structures. Some of you may already have an idea of what this is evolving into.

We are not ready to reveal the final result just yet, but the overall system is becoming increasingly visible.

We are heading to the WOCSDICE EXMATEC 2026 Conference and are looking forward to exchanging ideas with the wide bandgap community! On May 25 at 9.40 AM in Gdansk, Poland, Evatec Senior Scientist Thomas Tschirky will present “Magnetron sputter epitaxy of highly n-doped GaN for high volume manufacturing of regrown contact layers”.

He will show how magnetron sputter epitaxy enables highly n doped GaN with very low resistivity at growth temperatures up to 800 °C, using scalable approaches ready for large diameter wafers. A good reminder that sputtering can be fast, manufacturable and still impress device physicists.

9 - Superconducting thin films for Quantum Computing

Superconducting thin films are a key building block for many leading quantum computing approaches. Materials such as niobium, tantalum, niobium titanium alloys, and indium enable stable qubits, low loss resonators, and reliable interconnects.
Results from Evatec systems show how PVD processes such as sputtering and evaporation can deliver the material quality, uniformity, and process control required to move from laboratory research toward scalable wafer level quantum hardware.
