From April 19 to 21, diplomatic missions to Vienna from several countries—including Serbia, Sudan, Nigeria, Kenya, and Thailand—visited the Huaneng Shidao Bay Nuclear Power Base in Shandong Province, marking the first stop of the 3rd “Nuclear Cooperation Journey — Vienna Multilateral Ambassadors’ China Tour.”

During the visit, the delegation toured the Shidao Bay Nuclear Power Science and Technology Museum and the main control room of the HTR-PM demonstration project. They gained a comprehensive understanding of China Huaneng’s nuclear power portfolio, as well as the construction and operation of the Shidao Bay Nuclear Power Base, and engaged in in-depth discussions on the advantages, industrial applications, and talent development related to fourth-generation nuclear power technologies.

“These roe deer are back again!” — a simple, everyday remark that has now become the warmest greeting among staff at Huaneng’s Honghuaerji Hydropower Station.

Nestled in Hulunbuir, a land embraced by grasslands, forests and lakes, the Honghuaerji Reservoir quietly safeguards the drinking water supply for nearly 400,000 urban residents. At the same time, it has become a “five-star retreat” for wildlife such as roe deer. The berries—like sea buckthorn and wild crabapples—carefully planted by the station staff have turned into their favorite daily treats. Over the years, groups of roe deer have frequently wandered to the reservoir area to forage and play. Sometimes they lower their heads to nibble on tender shoots; at other times, they lift their gaze toward the distant treetops—just like familiar neighbors, seamlessly blending into the everyday life of the reservoir. Even in the harsh winter, when temperatures drop to -40°C, their footprints can still be seen scattered across the snow—our most adorable “work companions.”

How spectacular is it to see tens of thousands of solar panels tracking the sun in perfect sync?

This desert solar power plant is equipped with smart tracking mounts. Through technical optimization, a 10° tilt angle has been introduced. Combined with intelligent astronomical algorithms, the entire solar array can precisely follow the sun, maintaining a uniform orientation throughout the day.

This continuous, high-efficiency sun-tracking system can boost power generation by more than 10%. In addition, the panels benefit from natural self-cleaning through wind and gravity during rotation. Together with remote operation and maintenance support, the plant significantly reduces post-commissioning maintenance costs.

On April 7, China's deepest offshore wind power project, Huaneng Shandong Peninsula North L Site Offshore Wind Power Project, was fully grid-connected for power generation, marking new breakthroughs for China's offshore wind power in key fields such as complex far-reaching sea environments, large-capacity unit integration, and high-precision intelligent construction.

With a total installed capacity of 504,000 kilowatts, the project is equipped with 42 sets of 12-megawatt wind turbines. Located approximately 70 kilometers offshore at its center, with water depths ranging from 52 to 56 meters, it is China's deepest commercial offshore wind power project. It is expected to generate about 1.7 billion kilowatt-hours of electricity annually, equivalent to saving around 500,000 tonnes of standard coal each year.
