The Tsinghua University Research Centre for Industry and Circular Economy (CICE) was officially established in 2009. Our mission is to pave new roads for development of circular economy in China. Our work extends far beyond research, as we bridge science to solutions. We work with governments to develop policies that push circular economy strategies, industries to implement and assess cleaner tech
nologies, and people to understand how a more circular economy could improve their lives. Our expertise falls under two major areas. The first is circular economy development, where we find solutions to transform wastes into resources. There is ample opportunity both within and across industry sectors to economize what would normally be regarded as trash, and turn them into usable resources. We help organizations identify these opportunities to reduce materials consumption, treat wastes alternatively, find potentially new revenue streams, and ultimately reduce costs. Our second area of expertise is in energy savings and emissions reduction. We help manage energy flows and pollutant emissions on different levels - national, regional, sectoral, municipal, local. We help organizations identify critical points in their value chain to reduce energy consumption and/or pollutant emissions to not only meet standards, but apply best available practices. We develop solutions to account for changes in policies, technologies and/or market conditions, which helps to manage potential risks to a given system. Like the circular economy we promote, our approach is scientific, methodical, and non-linear. We continually assess and reassess our position to ensure that development is moving in the right direction.
