It's a wrap! ✨Thank you so much for following us on our iGEM 2025 journey. We happily left the jamboree with a gold medal 🥇and nominations for best integrated human practices, best wiki and best agriculture project for our project "NCLOSE". But more importantly, we met so many other iGEMers from all over the world and discussed exciting projects🤝. Our team is so grateful for the amazing experience we had on our iGEM journey.💚

Why did we choose this project?
When we started thinking about this year’s GEM challenge, one question guided us: How can we make a meaningful contribution to a more sustainable and resilient future?
We quickly realized that agriculture lies at the very heart of this challenge. It not only provides food and resources but also directly impacts ecosystems, biodiversity, and human health. At the same time, agriculture is increasingly threatened by climate change, pests, and diseases - problems that demand innovative and safe solutions. This is where our project, NCLOSE, comes in.
With it, we aim to explore synthetic biology approaches that can protect crops while reducing risks for nature and society. We believe that responsible innovation can help bridge the gap between human needs and environmental protection. 🔒🌿

Our food, our future, our responsibility!
World Food Day reminds us that access to safe and nutritious food is a fundamental right and that food security and sustainability go hand in hand. 🤝🔒
From farm to table, every step in the food system matters. 🚜 With climate change, population growth, and environmental pressures, the challenge of ensuring fair and resilient food production has never been greater. But innovation and collaboration can help create solutions that nourish both people and the planet. That is why our project NCLOSE aims to explore sustainable approaches that protect crops, enhance food safety, and reduce waste, paving the way for a healthier and more secure future for all. 🌱🏁

Reducing risks, building resilience!
Disasters caused by natural hazards are increasing worldwide but their impacts can be reduced when we act with foresight and responsibility. 🤝
The International Day of Disaster Risk Reduction is a call to strengthen preparedness and harness innovation to protect both people and the environment. 🌱
In synthetic biology, safety is at the core of every innovation. With technologies like kill switches in the development and use of engineered microorganisms, our project can be designed to minimize risks and maximize benefits. 📈

Our homes, our communities, our future! 🌱
World Habitat Day highlights the importance of sustainable living spaces, not only for people, but for the entire ecosystem we share. 🪸🌿
A healthy habitat is the foundation of well-being, resilience, and opportunity. But urbanization, pollution, and climate change are putting increasing pressure on the spaces where life thrives. This is why it is crucial to rethink how we build, grow, and protect our shared environments. 🚯
With NCLOSE, we are working on solutions that help preserve natural habitats, improve environmental safety, and promote sustainable agriculture, so that communities, big and small, can flourish for generations to come.
