Three exciting days, countless conversations, fresh ideas and a shared passion for retail ✨

In-store Asia 2026 brought together more than 5,000 industry professionals and 80 exhibitors from across retail, design, architecture, visual merchandising and retail technology. 🌍

This year’s edition was filled with inspiring highlights, from thought-provoking convention sessions and innovative retail tech solutions to the VM Challenge, the VM&RD Retail Design Awards and the debut of areas like the Designers’ Village and the Retail Tech Integration.

What truly made the event special was the incredible energy on the show floor and the people behind it. A heartfelt thank you to all exhibitors, partners, speakers, visitors and especially the amazing In-Store Asia team for making the 17th edition of In-Store Asia such a memorable experience.

In-store Asia in Mumbai is in full swing, and after the first day, it is already clear that the show has started strongly. Fresh ideas like the Designers’ Village stand out, alongside a wide range of creative booths and innovations across store design, shopfitting, visual merchandising, lighting, POS displays, signage, retail tech and print.

Today, the strategy sessions continue, the expo floor welcomes 80+ brands again, and the VM&RD Retail Design Awards celebrate outstanding retail talent.

Cashiers: Obsolete or evolving? 🤷‍♀️

Automation, self-checkout and AI are transforming checkout from a transactional endpoint into a dynamic touchpoint in the customer journey.

As technology is taking over repetitive processes, the role of store staff is evolving, not disappearing. We see a shift towards hybrid roles: service experts, problem solvers and technology guides on the shopfloor.

At the same time, checkout itself is moving beyond the traditional counter. Payment, advice and interaction increasingly happen directly on the sales floor – supported by data, smart systems and AI.

The real question for retailers is not whether checkout staff will disappear, but how human expertise and technology can be combined to increase efficiency, reduce friction and enhance customer satisfaction. ☺️📈
