The glass community came together in Luxembourg last week 🇱🇺

brought glasstec director Daniel Feische and Mathias Hengsbach from HEGLA GmbH & Co. KG, representing VDMA, to Guardian Glass Europe in Bascharage – where Guus Boekhoudt, Executive Vice President, Global Commercial at Guardian Glass and his team opened their doors for a day of presentations, a guided tour, and great conversations with Benelux press ahead of glasstec 2026.

The discussions touched on what's currently moving the glass industry and what glasstec 2026 will bring to the table. Plenty of energy in the room, and a shared excitement for what October in Düsseldorf has in store. 🚀

Thank you to Guus Boekhoudt, Line Lesiakowski, Sophie Weckx, Diana Larmuseau and the whole Guardian Glass Europe team, as well as Ody Randsdorp, Caroline Sonneville and Fairwise bv for making this day happen!

made a stop in Istanbul 🇹🇷

At the Feriye Palace on the Bosphorus, Petra Cullmann met with Turkish trade press for an inspiring exchange about the topics that will shape glasstec 2026 – from AI and digital technologies to decarbonisation and the circular economy.

Conversations like these are exactly what is about: connecting markets, building momentum, and making sure the road to Düsseldorf runs through as many cities around the world as possible.

A big thank you to the whole team for the seamless organisation and to all guests for the valuable exchange.

Thin as glass. Tough as a façade needs to be.

Extremely light, highly transparent, scratch-resistant – and robust enough for both new builds and the renovation of existing buildings. The secret: an innovative hybrid of a PMMA plastic core with outer thin glass layers, bonded through direct polymerisation. Delicate in appearance, serious in performance.

👉 The NEERO façade was developed by the Institute of Building Structures at TU Dresden together with KRD Coatings GmbH and Priedemann Facade-Lab GmbH – and was one of the standout projects at glass technology live at glasstec2024.

Strong partnerships are at the heart of glasstec. 🤝

Today, we’re putting the spotlight on Forum Glastechnik, part of VDMA .

As the central industry platform, the VDMA Glass Technology Forum connects experts, brings companies together and supports them in navigating technological and market changes.

The Forum offers guidance, opportunities for exchange and joint solutions, strengthens the competitiveness of the glass machinery industry and supports its members through advocacy, standardisation work, networking formats, trade fair activities such as glasstec, and market and trend monitoring.

Its key focus areas are:
💡 Digitalisation & artificial intelligence
🔗 Interoperability & data connectivity
⚙️ Machine safety & new production requirements
♻️ Energy and resource efficiency
🌍 Market trends, standardisation & advocacy

As the conceptual sponsor, the association is closely linked to glasstec. The Glass Technology Forum supports the glasstec conference with speaker recruitment and programme planning, takes on moderation duties and leads the Women in Glass panel discussion.

On the final day of the trade fair, the VDMA Glass Technology Forum organises guided tours for student groups. Fourteen exhibiting member companies have already registered as hosts. In addition, the Forum supports the global promotion of glasstec through live streams featuring content-rich contributions and its own presence.

👉 Meet the Glass Technology Forum at glasstec: Hall 15, Stand B27.

𝗪𝗵𝗮𝘁 𝗶𝘀 𝘆𝗼𝘂𝗿 𝗷𝗼𝗯 𝗮𝘁 𝗴𝗹𝗮𝘀𝘀𝘁𝗲𝗰?
I am responsible for exhibitor support and work with exhibitors to find the best possible location for their presentations within the glasstec halls. I also accompany the special show glass technology live to give visitors an informative and tangible glimpse into the future of glass.

𝗪𝗵𝗮𝘁 𝗱𝗼𝗲𝘀 𝗪𝗘 𝗔𝗥𝗘 𝗚𝗟𝗔𝗦𝗦 𝗺𝗲𝗮𝗻 𝘁𝗼 𝘆𝗼𝘂?
We are glass = We are family
In order to further advance glass as a material in all its facets, I experience open communication and lively exchange within the industry.

𝗪𝗵𝗮𝘁 𝗮𝗿𝗲 𝘆𝗼𝘂 𝗹𝗼𝗼𝗸𝗶𝗻𝗴 𝗳𝗼𝗿𝘄𝗮𝗿𝗱 𝘁𝗼 𝘁𝗵𝗲 𝗺𝗼𝘀𝘁 𝗮𝘁 𝘁𝗵𝗶𝘀 𝘆𝗲𝗮𝗿’𝘀 𝗴𝗹𝗮𝘀𝘀𝘁𝗲𝗰?
To be honest, I am most looking forward to the last day and the feedback that all exhibitors and visitors are very satisfied with this edition and will be happy to come back in 2028.

𝗪𝗵𝗮𝘁’𝘀 𝗼𝗻𝗲 𝘁𝗵𝗶𝗻𝗴 𝘆𝗼𝘂’𝘃𝗲 𝗹𝗲𝗮𝗿𝗻𝗲𝗱 𝗮𝗯𝗼𝘂𝘁 𝘁𝗵𝗲 𝗴𝗹𝗮𝘀𝘀 𝗶𝗻𝗱𝘂𝘀𝘁𝗿𝘆 𝘁𝗵𝗿𝗼𝘂𝗴𝗵 𝘄𝗼𝗿𝗸𝗶𝗻𝗴 𝗼𝗻 𝗴𝗹𝗮𝘀𝘀𝘁𝗲𝗰?
I have learned to perceive glass as a material more consciously and to appreciate it more. Even though the chemical formula for glass has been exhausted, glass is constantly reinventing itself in a wide variety of applications and continuing to evolve.

𝗜𝗳 𝘆𝗼𝘂 𝗵𝗮𝗱 𝗮 𝗳𝗿𝗲𝗲 𝗱𝗮𝘆 𝗶𝗻 𝗗ü𝘀𝘀𝗲𝗹𝗱𝗼𝗿𝗳 𝘄𝗶𝘁𝗵 𝗻𝗼 𝘀𝗰𝗵𝗲𝗱𝘂𝗹𝗲 – 𝗵𝗼𝘄 𝘄𝗼𝘂𝗹𝗱 𝘆𝗼𝘂 𝘀𝗽𝗲𝗻𝗱 𝗶𝘁?
I would probably go to a music concert with friends or watch a horse race at Grafenberger Wald.

𝗪𝗵𝗮𝘁 𝗱𝗼 𝘆𝗼𝘂 𝗹𝗶𝗸𝗲 𝘁𝗵𝗲 𝗺𝗼𝘀𝘁?
Coffee or tea? 🥤Cola light :)
Summer or winter? ☀️
Sweet or salty? 🍬

What do a multi-storey car park in Helsinki and a lens that enhances reality have in common?

Despite being very different projects, both demonstrate the capabilities of glass today.

👉 In Helsinki, a delicate steel structure featuring 190 individually manufactured, triangular, triple-glazed units spans a former multi-storey car park. It can be heated right down to the very edges and it won the Finnish Steel Structure Award in 2025. This exceptional combination of load-bearing capacity and high transparency is made possible by PVB interlayers from Kuraray.

👉 Inside the lens of a pair of AR glasses lies an ultra-thin glass waveguide, a component whose mass production was once considered an insurmountable technological challenge. SCHOTT was the first company in the world to achieve its industrial production.

We are delighted to have both Kuraray and SCHOTT exhibiting at glasstec this October, where visitors will be able to discover more about these innovations live and in person. 🤝
