Sartorius opens new competence center for cell and gene therapy components in , Germany 👏🏗️
Today, we are celebrating the opening of our new state-of-the-art research and production site in Freiburg-Haid, in southern Germany.
Spanning 18,000 m², the site features manufacturing capacity for quality-critical materials such as cytokines, growth factors, and other essential cell culture components. This investment further strengthens our footprint in cell and gene therapies, one of the biopharmaceutical industry’s most dynamic fields.
💬 “Cell and gene therapies offer hope for treating diseases once considered untreatable. As a key site in our global network for critical materials such as cytokines and growth factors, Freiburg serves a dynamic market with high demands on speed, scalability, and reliability,” said Dr. René Fáber, Head of the Bioprocess Solutions Division and member of the Sartorius Executive Board.
Highlights include:
🚀 Manufacturing capacity for quality-critical materials in Freiburg has more than doubled
📈 Total investment of more than €140 million
🌱 Fossil‑free operations using geothermal energy, groundwater cooling, and photovoltaics
🌍 Part of our global growth footprint: With Freiburg, we continue to expand our global manufacturing network for advanced therapies. Around 140 colleagues will support customers worldwide with a broad product portfolio.
Thank you to our guests and speakers today, including Michael Kleiner, Ministerial Director at the Baden-Württemberg Ministry of Economic Affairs, Robert Staible, Head of Housing Development and Surveying, City of Freiburg, and to all our colleagues who made this milestone possible.
