When an extraction system isn't performing as well as it once did, replacement isn't always the answer.

Sometimes, the opportunity is already there.

Existing systems can often be improved through:
Optimising airflow
Intelligent controls
Improved filtration
Performance monitoring
Service and maintenance
Targeted upgrades

The right approach depends on the system, the process and what has changed since it was installed.

At Nederman, we can help assess your existing system and determine whether optimisation, upgrading, replacement, or a combination is the right solution.

Because the best solution isn't necessarily the newest one.

It's the one that works best for your operation.

Your extraction system may still be running.

But is it still performing as it should?

Over time, your operation can change:
โ€ข Production volumes increase
โ€ข Equipment is added or relocated
โ€ข Processes change
โ€ข Work areas are reconfigured
โ€ข New dust or fume sources are introduced

These changes can affect how your extraction system needs to perform.

And that doesn't automatically mean you need to replace it.

Reviewing your existing system can help identify what's working, where performance may have changed, and whether targeted improvements could bring it back in line with your current requirements.

Before replacing your system, do you know how well your existing one is performing?

Manufacturing rarely stands still.

Production changes. Equipment is added or moved. Processes evolve. Layouts change.

But what about your extraction system?

A system designed around yesterday's operation may not be optimised for the way your facility works today.

Changes in production can affect airflow requirements, capture points, filtration and overall system performance.

That doesn't necessarily mean you need a new system.

Sometimes, the right approach is to review how your existing system is performing and identify where improvements can be made.

At Nederman, we can help assess existing systems and identify opportunities to optimise, upgrade, monitor or maintain them as your operation evolves.

๐Ÿ” Has your extraction system kept up with your manufacturing?

Compliance starts long before an inspection.

Meeting regulatory requirements isn't just about paperwork.

It's about having systems that are designed, maintained and operating as they should.

When extraction systems perform effectively, they help support safer workplaces, more efficient operations and greater confidence in day-to-day compliance.

Good engineering makes compliance part of the process, not something to worry about afterwards.

Not sure where to start with LEV compliance? Here is a quick summary of what you need to know.

We've published a Q&A covering the most common questions around industrial air filtration, LEV, and ATEX; written to give manufacturers straight answers rather than technical jargon.

The short version:
โ€ข Having a system installed doesn't mean you're automatically compliant โ€” changes to your process, materials, or output all affect that

โ€ข LEV systems need testing every 14 months as a maximum โ€” not annually on a fixed date, because performance varies with temperature and humidity across seasons

โ€ข ATEX applies wherever combustible dust is present in sufficient quantities โ€” it's not just a large-site regulation

โ€ข In many cases, upgrading what you have is more cost-effective than full replacement

The full article goes into more depth on each of these. Worth a read if compliance is something you want to get on top of this year.

One facility. Multiple clean air challenges.

Some workplaces generate wood dust.

Others produce welding fumes or vehicle exhaust emissions.

Many have all of them.

That's why effective extraction starts with understanding the process before selecting the solution.

Our recent project at a further education campus in Ballymena brought together extraction systems for woodworking, welding and automotive workshops, creating safer learning environments across the campus.

Every workplace is different.

The right solution should be too.

Most downtime starts with small changes.

A filter slowly becomes blocked.
Airflow reduces.
Performance begins to drift.

These gradual changes often go unnoticed until they affect production.

Regular servicing and system monitoring can help identify issues early, keeping your extraction system performing efficiently and helping to avoid unexpected downtime.

Prevention is almost always better than reacting after the event.

Sugar, spice, and everything nice, until it's floating in the air. ๐Ÿ˜ฎ

In food manufacturing, everyday ingredients like flour and sugar can create real hygiene, contamination, and explosion risks once they become airborne. Our latest article explains why, and what effective extraction actually looks like.

Manufacturing never stands still.

Production changes.
Equipment moves.
Processes evolve.
But has your extraction system kept pace?

As your facility develops, reviewing your extraction system helps ensure it's still providing the performance, efficiency and protection your operation needs.

Sometimes, a few targeted improvements can make all the difference.

๐Ÿ’ก Looking beyond the quotation.

Price is an important consideration, but it isn't the only one.

When choosing an extraction system, it's worth asking:
โœ” How much energy will it use?
โœ” How easy is it to maintain?
โœ” Will it grow with your business?
โœ” What support is available after installation?

The answers to those questions often have a bigger impact over the life of a system than the purchase price alone.

The best value comes from choosing a solution that continues to perform for years to come.
