Robot applications- there are lots!

A far from exhaustive list of things you can use industrial robots for. Robots are basically positioners - it's the tooling that defines a robot's application. Some industries use thousands of robots others a very few. Having sold robots to Iceland, Colombia, Japan and India into many different industries I can tell you there are far more uses for robots than you imagine. They're out there, working away, doing usually horrible jobs that are difficult to recruit for or indeed impossible for humans.

A rant about the lack of robotics we have in the UK

There is a real issue with the lack of industrial robots working in the UK. We need them for productivity and competitiveness. The issue is there are several reasons why the U.K. is among the lowest users of robotics in the developed world. Henry Fudge says that the rentier black hole, is pulling all investment into property and little is left for manufacturing. This is certainly part of the problem but is compounded by short termism and a small starting point.
