Ferne Animal Sanctuary are raising funds for Mikey, who currently needs ongoing health care for his unexpected illness.

Mikey has extreme anaemia, he's currently on steroids and is having repeat blood testing. The illness has been very unexpected and sudden since being re-homed 6 weeks ago.

They need to raise £2000 to help with an outstanding vet bill.

Western Fuel are currently taking part in Shine's Virtual Balloon Race for Folic Acid Awareness.

Spina bifida (literally, ‘split spine’) is a neural tube defect which can cause multiple health complications and bring lifelong challenges.

Folic acid supplementation is proven to reduce the chances of neural tube defects by up to 70%. Shine’s Folic for Life programme focuses on raising awareness of the benefits of introducing and encouraging the habitual supplementation of folic acid into daily routines.

Highbridge Area Foodbank conducts essential work, helping local people in crisis in Highbridge and Burnham on Sea. This year Western Fuel have made a monetary donation of £500 and donated £500 worth of food.

If you would like to donate, the easiest way is to drop food off at the collection baskets at the checkouts of your local Supermarket. Highbridge Area Foodbank collects from Highbridge Asda, Burnham Lidl and Burnham Tesco.

The charity has a shopping list of things they need on their website. You can also download an app called Bank the Food, which will notify you when you get to the supermarket of which items are needed the most.

Over 90% of the food distributed by foodbanks in The Trussell Trust network is donated by the public. Therefore, donations are absolutely vital to their ability to give everyone referred to them a balanced and nutritious supply of food.

Counties 3 Somerset South

Wells RFC Seconds 13- 10 B&ARFC Second XV

The Bridgwater side for this trip to play at table toppers Wells welcomed back Shaun Mahoney, returning from injury after more than two years.

After a slow start against a strong Wells team who once again made the most of their sloping pitch, the Albion clawed their way back into the match in the second half, but sadly just couldn’t quite do enough.

The hosts attacked strongly from the start but found it difficult to work their way through the Albion defence. However, in the ninth minute, from a penalty to touch Wells swung the ball along the line and their centre stepped back inside to score an unconverted try.

Albions first real attack came five minutes before half time when they put pressure on the Wells line but to no avail and the score remained 5-0 at the break.

Ten minutes into the second half, Wells created some space,e which allowed their left wing to score another unconverted try.

Wells extended their lead further when they were awarded a penalty that was slotted home in the 56th minute to make the score 13-0.

Albion then started to come into the own, the forwards rumbled, and in the 70th minute, Aiden Cable and Charlie Barnes took the ball through,it was moved wide and Aidan Robinson went over in the corner for an unconverted try.

Lewis Randle then burst through but was just held and then a Mahoney burst took Albion into the home 22, but were penalised. They won the ball back well and ran it through the three quarters before Randle ran 60 metres holding off the defence to score an unconverted try, which was the final play of the game as it ended 13-10.

B&ARFC- Dave Clayden, Harvey Fisher, Gavin Knight, Leigh Parker, Rowan James, Josh Parker (capt), Charlie Barnes, Shaun Mahoney, Rowan Bird, Jake Garrett, Lewis Randle, Lewis Plece, Dan Lang, Aidan Robinson, and Jake Nelson.

Replacements all used- Will Clapham, Alex Knight, James Collings, Aiden Cable and Jay Owens.

Meanwhile, B&ARFC Thirds notched up their first win of the season when they beat Wells 51-15 at College Way.

This coming Saturday 4th October the First XV play their first home match of the season in Western Counties (North) when they entertain Old Bristolians kick off 3pm.

Welcome back, Shaun Mahoney
