How do you make every pallet identical — and pay for the system in under six months?

A UK manufacturer of fire-stopping products came to us with a familiar end-of-line problem. Operators were hand-stacking insulation batts onto pallets in a set pattern. It was physically demanding, the pace varied from person to person, and stack quality was never quite consistent.

We installed a cobot palletiser — a compact, high-payload collaborative robot that automates the palletising at the end of the line.

The results speak for themselves:

✅ Every pallet now leaves the factory identical — quality no longer depends on the individual
✅ Repetitive manual handling removed, cutting the risk of RSI and lifting injuries
✅ Reliable, consistent output in place of operator-to-operator variation
✅ A small footprint that fits a tight end-of-line space
✅ Simple enough for operators to programme themselves

And the business case? Granta's cost-of-automation analysis showed the system paying for itself in under six months.

In the customer's own words: "I can now guarantee that every pallet is the same when it leaves this factory, whereas before it was down to individuals."

Whether you're weighing up robotic palletising, automated palletising or a collaborative robot for a space-constrained line, we'll help you build the business case — starting with a free assessment visit.

Ease of use is the most important metric in Robotic Palletising. Not speed. Not payload.

Here's why:

A palletiser that stacks 30% faster on paper — but sits idle every time a product changes because nobody on shift can reprogram it — is slower in practice than a system your operators can run confidently every day.

And with 76% of UK engineering employers struggling to recruit for key roles (IET, 2025), building your automation strategy around scarce robot programmers is a risk most manufacturers can't afford.

The modern benchmark: if an operator can use a smartphone, they should be able to program the palletiser. Easy programming means new product setup in minutes, not days — and automation that's viable even for short production runs.

We've broken down why ease of use should be the no.1 metric on your evaluation checklist — plus the 6 questions to ask before you buy.

Looking at automated palletising this year? 📦

Two things that might be worth a look:

✅ A prebuilt industrial robotic palletiser – 140kg payload, vacuum gripper, ex-stock, factory tested and self-install – at £57,900

✅ Free site assessments across the UK and Ireland for our full range of cobot, compact and modular palletisers

How it works: we visit, measure up, and send you a detailed proposal – complete with a 3D CAD model of the system in your space. No obligation, and you'll see exactly how it fits before spending a penny.

How long does it take to install a palletiser?

Most manufacturers are quoted 2+ weeks of downtime, with multiple engineers on site.

Our customers tell a different story:

✅ Palletiser installed by the end of day one
✅ Uncrated to stacking its first case on a pallet in under 48 hours
✅ 3 days of hands-on training for engineering and production teams
✅ An extra day on site supervising live operation and resolving production line integration issues
✅ Immediate post-install support from engineers who actually respond

The secret? A modular palletiser design that dramatically cuts installation time — plus training and support built around your team, not just the machine.

Because quick installs mean nothing without training that sticks.

You've probably touched a Granta-palletised product today. You just didn't know it. 🤫

The oats in your breakfast. The gin in your Friday night G&T. The bird seed in the feeder. The AdBlue in the van.

Most of our customers aren't household names – they're the manufacturers working quietly behind the scenes of British life. Their names stay confidential, but their products? They're everywhere.

Cheese and chips. Gin and glue. Oat milk and engine oil. Wildly different products, weights and factories – all stacked by the same approach: easy-programming software your own team can run, a patented modular design, and industrial-grade robots. All designed, built and supported in-house in the UK.

Your palletiser should never be the reason your line slows down.

Yet end-of-line is exactly where many production lines quietly lose pace — a machine that can't match the box rate, or operators hand-stacking and tiring as the shift goes on.

A quoted cycle time is easy to be impressed by. But a palletiser that stacks quickly then stops every twenty minutes hasn't solved anything. Real throughput is steady, dependable output across a full shift — with your boxes, at your line speed, day after day.

That's why we work the way we do:
✅ Understand your line before recommending anything
✅ Agree a realistic throughput target up front
✅ Design to that target, with headroom for real-world variation
✅ Prove it — factory acceptance testing first, then again at commissioning
✅ Stay available long after sign-off

We'd rather be judged on outcomes than specifications. That's what Achieve with Automation means at Granta.

Did you know one robot palletiser can handle multiple production lines?

Many people assume it's one robot, one line — full stop. In reality, there are several proven ways to feed multiple lines into a single robot:

🔹 Multiple infeed conveyors — one robot in the centre, a conveyor from each line, serving up to six or seven pallet positions
🔹 A single collated infeed — several lines merged onto one conveyor, with a barcode reader identifying each product so it lands on the correct pallet
🔹 Track-mounted robots — when you need more pallet positions than a static robot can reach: 7, 20, 30 or more

So which is right for you? It comes down to three things: speed, space, and access.

Fast lines (30–50 products a minute) deserve their own dedicated robot. Slow lines can share one — and save serious money and floor space doing it. And don't overlook access: connecting conveyors can block walkways between lines unless solutions like drawbridge conveyors or step-over platforms are designed in from the start.

We design, build and support all of these configurations — our job is simply to recommend the one that fits your products, speeds and layout.
