Engineered for Extremes: Bespoke Weighing Solutions for Demanding Industrial Environments
Applied Weighing International offer tailored solutions for the most challenging applications. Operations involving high temperatures, aggressive chemicals, and hazardous areas often benefit from a bespoke approach to ensure safety and reliability.

Working closely with customers, Applied Weighing are able to develop custom-designed loading assemblies tailored specifically to the customer’s equipment and site operating conditions. To ensure long-term durability in harsh outdoor environments, the loading assemblies can be finished with an enhanced C5 corrosion coating if required, exceeding the standard C3 protection typically supplied. Furthermore, load cells may receive a protective Parylene coating, providing an additional barrier against moisture, chemicals, and contamination.

Where industrial process systems operate at elevated temperatures, high-temperature load cells capable of withstanding up to 160°C can be selected. Special heat-resistant and chemical-resistant cable options are available and can be chosen to maintain performance and reliability throughout the life cycle of the system.

Recognising that every site has unique requirements, a bespoke weighing solution engineered to deliver accuracy, durability and safety is just one of the reasons why so many choose Applied Weighing for their industrial weighing requirements.

Testing the mettle of the AW MegaMount range
When weighing takes place in demanding industrial environments, reliability and durability are critical.

Applied Weighing recently installed a heavy-duty weighing system, designed to operate in a particularly challenging application, using 4 x 200te capacity loading assemblies to weigh scrap metal into a mobile carrier and onward into the melting process.

Built to withstand high temperatures and loading via electro-magnetic crane machinery with the inevitable shock loads associated with steel handling, the system combines robust mechanical design with protected instrumentation to ensure dependable performance.

To eliminate cabling and improve system resilience, weight data is transmitted wirelessly to a base station then into the customers PC, with transmission range carefully tuned to minimise interference and suit the operating environment.

A further endorsement of the solution? This installation is a repeat system for our heavy industry client - reflecting continued confidence in a proven weighing design.

Stopping shocks to the system
These bulk bag discharging stations are now benefiting from the integral anti-vibration mounts of the Applied Weighing “Compact” range of loading assemblies.

Designed to receive bulk bags directly from the operator’s forklift truck, the discharge stations are susceptible to impact from the forklift during this loading process, presenting constant challenges to the overall performance of the weighing system. The load cells are particularly vulnerable to shock loading, which can cause damage to the cells and culminate in system downtime.

Mounting the discharge stations on load cells with anti-vibration mounts helps to tackle this problem. The “Compact” loading assembly’s anti-vibration mounts are designed to isolate the load cells from surrounding interference and to protect the cells from impact forces. The final result is a reduction in maintenance costs for the client and a dependable weighing system that provides long term accuracy.

One of the challenges of industrial weighing applications is the presence of flammable gases, vapours, or combustible dusts within the operating environment. These conditions create explosion risks and are generally referred to as ATEX applications; applications governed by regulations for equipment intended for use in explosive atmospheres and which requires a minimum level of safety for the protection of workers.

Applied Weighing is a certified manufacturer of ATEX compliant products for use in ATEX applications and has a nationwide service network to commission and support the ongoing maintenance and calibration of these ATEX systems.

Recently, Applied Weighing completed the commissioning of several vessel weighing systems within a new multi-million pound production facility, which incorporated ATEX load cells and weighing controllers. Given its versatility and durability, the “Compact” range of loading assemblies was chosen for use with ATEX rated junction boxes and weighing controllers. These controllers communicate with the customer’s central control system and also provide site operators with a safe and reliable visual display of the weight of their materials.

The Applied Weighing load cell simulator is a lightweight and portable servicing tool used by maintenance workers and commissioning engineers for fault finding and the configuration of weighing systems.

In particular, where it is impractical to apply test weights to some vessel, silo and other process weighing applications, the simulation of an applied load through the use of a load cell simulator offers users a simple and cost-effective solution for the simulated calibration of weighing instrumentation.

The millivolt output from the load cell simulator is adjusted by a multi-turn potentiometer to send a precise signal to the receiving device. For convenience and ease of use, the simulator is powered from the excitation voltage of the load cell weight indicator, meaning that no additional power supply is required and makes the Applied Weighing load cell simulator a must-have for servicing and maintenance professionals.

The Applied Weighing “Ultra” range of shear beam load cells offers users an IP68 rated, fully welded stainless steel solution for their application. Designed for harsh environments and washdown applications in a variety of industrial, chemical and food processing environments, the Ultra shear beam load cell is perhaps the most versatile shear beam load cell on the marketplace.

A popular choice for hopper, vessel and tank weighing systems, these load cells are often supplied within the Clevermount, Cleanmount and Compact range of Applied Weighing loading assemblies. However, with industry standard hole sizes, the Ultra shear beam load cell is also interchangeable with many other products on the market, making it the perfect solution for repairs and replacements.

The Applied Weighing “Ultra” also excels in high capacity applications, with a 10,000kg capacity version demonstrating the wide range of weighing capacities that are available. Approvals for use in ATEX rated operating environments and OIML certification for 'legal for trade' applications attest to the versatility of the Ultra shear beam load cell.

Proud to Lead the Way in EN1090 Compliance and Safety
At Applied Weighing, we’re proud to have been one of the first load cell manufacturers to achieve EN1090 certification for our load cell assemblies - a milestone we reached many years ago and continue to uphold today.

But what does EN1090 actually mean?
EN1090 is the European standard that governs the ex*****on and conformity assessment of structural steel and aluminium components, ensuring products are safe, consistent, and compliant with EU/UK construction regulations. It’s also the standard that underpins CE/UKCA marking, enabling legally compliant supply into construction projects.

For our customers, this certification means traceable quality, proven manufacturing control, and total confidence in the performance of our load cell assemblies in structural applications.
Quality, safety, and compliance - built into every product.
