πŸŒ™πŸš§ Two Nights, Four Locations, One Successful Delivery πŸš§πŸŒ™

SGH Civils & Surfacing recently completed a programme of carriageway resurfacing works on behalf of Doncaster Council, delivering improvements across four separate locations over just two night shifts to minimise disruption to residents and road users.

The works included sites at:

πŸ“ Cherry Lane
πŸ“ Marshgate (Location 1)
πŸ“ Marshgate (Location 2)
πŸ“ North Bridge Road

Across the scheme, our team carried out:

βœ… Planing of the existing carriageway surface to a depth of 40mm
βœ… Application of bituminous spray bond coat
βœ… Installation of new 40mm SMA 10mm aggregate surface course

βœ… Installation of new 40mm SMA10 68PSV on approaches to pedestrian crossings

βœ… Localised carriageway patch repairs and resurfacing works
βœ… Careful coordination of traffic management and night-time operations

In total, over 1,600mΒ² of carriageway was resurfaced, restoring worn sections of road and providing a safer, smoother surface for motorists.

A great effort from the team working through the night to ensure these essential maintenance works were completed safely, efficiently and with minimal impact on the travelling public.

Well done to everyone involved in another successful project delivered for Doncaster Council.

πŸ“’ Pighill Allotments Project Update πŸ“’

Great progress continues at Pighill Allotments on behalf of City of Doncaster Council.

Over the past week, our team has successfully installed the planter beds and completed the concrete bases that will support the gazebos, modular buildings, and benches across the site. We've also finished stoning up the entire area, bringing the site to its required levels and preparing it for the next phase of works.

In addition, the Klargester cesspool has now been successfully installed, marking another key milestone in the infrastructure works and ensuring the site is ready to support the future facilities.

Looking ahead to next week, SGH Civils & Surfacing will be installing the BodPave surfacing around the accessible planter beds, creating durable and inclusive access throughout the development. Following this, we'll be moving on to erecting the two impressive polytunnels, each measuring 21ft x 48ft, which will be a fantastic addition to the allotment facilities.

It's great to see this scheme really taking shape, and we look forward to sharing more updates as the project progresses.

🌧️ How does weather affect civils work?

Weather plays a huge role in groundworks and surfacing projects β€” and in the UK, rain is often the biggest challenge.

❌ Softer ground = harder excavation & levels
❌ Moisture impacts sub-base & asphalt
❌ Wet conditions reduce compaction quality
❌ Can lead to delays if unmanaged

But it’s not all bad news β€” changing weather also highlights the importance of experience, planning, and doing the job right.

At SGH Civils & Surfacing Ltd, we don’t cut corners. We monitor conditions, adapt where needed, and keep quality at the forefront β€” whatever the weather.

And with brighter, drier days starting to return, it’s the perfect time to keep projects moving. β˜€οΈ

βœ”οΈ Done properly. No shortcuts.
