Its delta-wing design gave the aircraft the performance needed for its role as a high-altitude strategic bomber, while its four Olympus engines provided the power to get it there.

LOOKING FOR SOMETHING DIFFERENT TO DO THIS BANK HOLIDAY WEEKEND?

Why not spend part of your Sunday getting up close to one of Britain’s most iconic aircraft?

This Sunday 30 August, join us for a Vulcan XH558 Underwing Tour at Doncaster Sheffield Airport with tickets just £15 per person.

Stand beneath XH558’s enormous delta wing, get a completely different perspective of the aircraft and hear more about her history, engineering and the work being done to preserve her for the future.

And if you’ve previously added a name beneath the wing or on XH558’s bomb bay doors, this is a great opportunity to come along and see it for yourself.

You’ll also have the chance to take photographs from angles you simply don’t normally get to see.

Today is a big day for thousands of young people across the country, including some of our own volunteers, supporters and members of the wider Vulcan family.

GCSE results can help shape the next step, whether that means sixth form, college, an apprenticeship or beginning to explore a future career, and we’d like to congratulate everyone who has reached this important milestone.

At Vulcan to the Sky, we believe that preserving XH558 isn’t simply about looking back.

Honouring the Past. Inspiring the Future.

By sharing the incredible story of the Vulcan, the people who designed, built, maintained and flew her, and the engineering that made it all possible, we want to inspire another generation to discover what they could achieve.

Through our growing education and STEM work, we hope that some of the young people receiving their GCSE results today might go on to become the engineers, technicians, scientists, pilots and innovators of tomorrow.

Whatever your results say today, there are many different routes to where you want to go.

A huge thank you to Tunbridge Wells Air Cadets - 129 Sqn and the Kent Wing Air Cadets for visiting Vulcan XH558 during the their recent camp.

It was fantastic to see just how much interest, enthusiasm and curiosity the cadets brought with them. Rather than simply seeing XH558 up close, they had the opportunity to get hands-on, working alongside our team on routine maintenance activities, seeing some of the aircraft’s systems brought to life and learning more about the engineering behind this remarkable aircraft.

For us, this is exactly what “Honouring the Past, Inspiring the Future” is all about, using XH558 and the experience of our volunteers to help inspire the next generation of engineers, aviators and enthusiasts.

Thank you to all the cadets for throwing yourselves into the visit and making it such an enjoyable day for our team too. We hope to see you again in the future!
