AI has entered a new era, can governance keep up?

Tomorrow, 8 September, ENODA’s ENSEMBLE Product Manager, Eva Jovanova will join the discussion at the STG-3 AI Forum: Risk, Compliance & AI Governance, exploring how regulated firms are approaching model risk, accountability and the compliance perimeter for agentic systems.

Eva will bring a Web3 perspective to the conversation, looking at how decentralised autonomous organisations face many of the same questions around accountability and regulation, and what those unresolved challenges tell us about the future governance of AI agents.

The session will cover:
• Model risk management for LLMs and agents
• Accountability when autonomous systems act
• What regulators are signalling, and what compliance teams are asking for

The electricity system is changing rapidly, placing new and increasingly complex demands on networks.

As demand grows and new technologies reshape how electricity is generated and consumed, distribution networks are being asked to do far more than they were originally designed for.
The challenge is no longer simply delivering more power. It’s about building networks that can respond to these new generation and consumption patterns, while continuing to deliver reliable performance.

In the first of our Powering the Grid of Tomorrow series, we look at what’s driving this shift — and why grid modernisation is becoming increasingly important.

ENODA Celebrates Successful First Placement with the AGQ CDT

ENODA has successfully completed its first doctoral placement with the EPSRC Centre for Doctoral Training in Algebra, Geometry and Quantum Fields (AGQ CDT), marking an important milestone in the partnership established earlier this year.

The AGQ CDT is a collaborative programme between Heriot-Watt University, the University of Edinburgh and the University of Glasgow. The Centre brings together leading researchers to train doctoral students at the highest level of mathematical research.

Over the past six months, ENODA has hosted AGQ CDT doctoral research student Isky Mathews as a Research Assistant within its Research team.

The placement provided a valuable exchange of knowledge and expertise for both Isky and ENODA. Working alongside ENODA’s researchers, including Senior Mathematical Physicist Matteo Stoppato, Isky applied advanced mathematical theory to real-world engineering challenges, contributing directly to the development of ENODA’s technology while bringing fresh perspectives and academic insight to the Research team.

ENODA’s partnership with the AGQ CDT reflects a shared commitment to extending the frontiers of mathematical physics, translating deep theory into transformative energy technology, and enabling the next generation of researchers to see the tangible impact of their work.

Following the successful completion of this first placement, ENODA will continue to support the AGQ CDT through a range of activities, including further placements through to 2032.

Discover ENODA’s Intelligent Energy Platform.

The ENODA Platform brings together intelligent substation hardware, software, and digital modelling to securely manage grid-wide stability and unlock the growth of electrification and intelligence.

💡 Enoda PRIME® Exchanger
An intelligent substation device that optimises power flow for distribution networks and, when deployed as a fleet, enables frequency modulation.

📈 Nodal Asset Management
The edge-to-cloud software layer within each Enoda PRIME® Exchanger, collecting and processing field data to enable advanced monitoring, control and analytics.

📍 ENODA Digital Twin
A behavioural replica of the Enoda PRIME® Exchanger within the distribution network, allowing DSOs to stress-test deployment scenarios and gain visibility of what’s happening at the edge.

ENODA is establishing a testing and production facility in Shawfair, Edinburgh to
industrialise its first-of-a-kind technology for energy system stability and security.

The site will provide the company’s first production and industrial testing capabilities, while supporting the expansion of its research and development activities.

The facility is a key milestone in ENODA's growth strategy, enabling the company to proceed on its certification path. ENODA will commence production of its commercial-scale Enoda PRIME® Exchanger to customers in Europe, while continuing its ground-breaking innovation for energy systems, supported by a state-of-the-art testing and R&D facility.

The true value of an internship is realised through the mutual exchange of ideas – fresh perspectives from emerging talent, nurtured by experience.

After winning the 2026 OR Challenge, Toby Waite and Tariq Ashkar joined ENODA’s engineering team as Mathematical Validation Interns, working on challenges ranging from the disaggregation of low-voltage network loads to the optimisation of core and winding configurations.

Emilio Martin, ENODA’s Head of AI and Data Science, shared: “It has been a chance to think differently about how we share knowledge, provide guidance, and create an environment in which young engineers can do their best work. That, for me, is where the real value of an internship programme lies.”

Reflecting on his experience, Tariq said: “I feel very proud of the work I've done, the knowledge I gained here will act as a fundamental cornerstone that I'll reflect on for the rest of my professional career.”

Toby added: “I have had a fantastic time this summer working in the research team and have had the opportunity to learn a great deal about electromagnetism, transformers, and how the PRIME Exchanger works. I particularly enjoyed seeing how mathematics and engineering come together, and how differently the two disciplines approach the same problem.”

We’re grateful to Toby and Tariq for the contribution they’ve made during their time with ENODA, and look forward to following their future achievements.

Many thanks to the University of Edinburgh School of Mathematics, The OR Society and HiGHS for creating opportunities that strengthen the connection between academia and industry.

How can harmonic distortion be managed in today's energy grid?

ENODA Product Manager, Laura Rios Gomez, uses a scaled-down device to showcase the Enoda PRIME® Exchanger’s ability to reduce harmonic signals on distribution networks.

Inverter-based resources connected to the distribution network can conduct harmonic signals to the medium-voltage grid. ENODA designed the PRIME Exchanger to transfer power on the distribution network and dynamically reduce signal distortion caused by harmonics.

As electricity networks continue to evolve, managing harmonic distortion is becoming increasingly important. Reducing harmonics can help improve power quality and support the reliability of increasingly complex electricity networks.
