Our engineers Reece, Christian, Jordan, and Chris have had a busy few weeks working on a wide range of projects across the Southwest.

Recent installations have included:
• A new borehole chamber for a 120m deep borehole supplying a 100m³ per day abstraction
• A full system redesign for a wedding venue including additional storage tanks and sediment filtration
• A new storage tank installation combining an existing spring supply with a new borehole
• An iron and manganese reduction system with storage tanks for a high end new build property

What is the payback on a new private water system?

Water bills are rising again and for higher usage sites the increases can become very expensive very quickly.

Ofwat has approved water bill increases through to 2030, with South West Water customers expected to see rises of around 23% before inflation. Even at lower usage levels, the numbers soon add up.

A site using 20m³ of water per day could see annual water costs rise from roughly £19,783 to more than £25,000 per year.

At this level of usage, a private water supply will not require an abstraction licence, making it an attractive option for some businesses, farms, and larger properties looking to reduce reliance on the mains supply.

For businesses using around 100m³ of water per day, the figures become even more significant, with annual water costs potentially increasing from around £99,000 to more than £125,000 per year.

This is one of the reasons more farms, commercial sites, and private estates are now looking at private water supplies and boreholes.

In many cases, systems can see payback periods of just 1 to 2 years depending on usage levels and site requirements, with long term savings that very few other investments can offer.

At higher usage levels an abstraction licence is required, and we can handle the full process from applications through to ongoing support.
