Work Experience - Site Engineering 👷‍♂️✨
Recently, we had the pleasure of welcoming Charlie for work experience with one of our Site Engineers.

Throughout his time with us, Charlie gained valuable insight into the different areas involved within site engineering, experiencing both office-based learning and hands-on site work. This gave him the opportunity to see how engineering supports projects from the planning stages right through to construction on site.

During the week, Charlie spent time in the office working with CAD drawings and learning how technical plans are produced and reviewed. Out on site, he had the chance to use the total station for measuring and setting out, helping him gain a practical understanding of surveying and site accuracy.
Charlie also got involved in our “Build a House” challenge workshop, where he showed great enthusiasm, teamwork, and a willingness to get stuck in with every task.

We hope Charlie found the experience enjoyable, informative, and inspiring. It was a pleasure to support and encourage someone interested in the construction industry, and we wish him the very best for the future. 🌟👏

🏠🔨 A fantastic afternoon at Keyingham Primary School delivering our Build a House Challenge for Year 1 and Year 2 pupils!

Using Mega Bloks, pupils designed and built their own houses while practising key maths skills through counting and calculating the value of their builds. The sessions also introduced children to careers in construction and how maths is used every day in the industry.

A huge thank you to our brilliant ambassadors Vicky, Mark, Ruby and Henry for inspiring the next generation, and a special shout-out to our work experience student Charlie for his excellent help throughout the session!👏

Work Experience Pre- Construction👷‍♀️✨

Recently, we had the pleasure of welcoming two work experience students, Cole and Eve, who spent the week with our Preconstruction department.

Throughout their time with us, they gained valuable insight into the different areas involved within Preconstruction, experiencing both office-based learning and days out on site. This gave them the opportunity to see how projects develop from the early planning stages through to delivery.

During the week, Cole and Eve were introduced to a variety of departments and tasks, learning about estimating, planning, project coordination, and the importance of collaboration across teams. They also spent time on site to gain a better understanding of how office planning translates into live construction projects.

We hope they both found the experience enjoyable, informative, and inspiring. It was a pleasure to support and encourage the next generation entering the construction industry, and we wish them both every success in the future. 🌟👏

Our panel explored the importance of correctly fitting PPE for women in the industry, and why inclusive workwear is essential for safety, confidence and comfort on site. 💬

The discussion highlighted the progress being made across the industry, while also recognising that there is still more to do to ensure women have access to PPE and clothing that properly fits and protects them. 💪

Mental Health Awareness Week 2026 💚

This week, we’re supporting Mental Health Awareness Week and highlighting the importance of wellbeing across our team and the construction industry.
At Hobson & Porter, we’re proud to have trained Mental Health First Aiders within the business — helping to create a supportive, positive environment both on and off site. 👷‍♂️👷‍♀️

We’re also proud to support The Lighthouse Charity, a charity dedicated to the emotional, physical and financial wellbeing of construction workers and their families. Their vital support services help those in our industry access the help they need when they need it most. 💚

This week is all about raising awareness, breaking the stigma, and reminding our team that support is always there. 👷‍♂️👷‍♀️
