Bournemouth Avionics

Bournemouth Avionics Avionics for fixed and rotary wing aircraft. Maintenance and upgrades. Plus equipment and storage fac Please check out our Services page for details.

Bournemouth Avionics Ltd was founded in 2004 when the managing director (Brian Cook) decided to break away from his current employer. Based on his long time service within the UK military, (1983 to 1999), the company aimed to provide good quality avionic support for GA as scheduled, unscheduled and installation services. Although now based at Lee On Solent (EGHF), BAL initially started life as a m

obile service, (which can be still offered today) before moving into a workshop at Goodwood Airfield. The recent move from Goodwood September 2012, to Lee On Solent gives BAL a more flexible working environment, taking full advantage of the hard runway and large hard standing areas. Although avionics remain the company’s specialty, the company has now been able to expand the services it offers at Lee On Solent.

Busy in the hangar with a major avionics upgrade on this Cessna Golden Eagle.

As part of the strip-out we’ve removed around 35 kg of wiring from the aircraft — and that doesn’t even include the weight of the old equipment that’s come out.

The new setup going in:
• Dual Garmin GI275
• GTN750Xi
• GI285
• Garmin GFC600 autopilot

Despite the capability jump, we estimate the new systems will use roughly a quarter of the wiring the old installation needed.

Modern avionics really do clean things up behind the panel.

Safe to say this aircraft will be heading for a reweigh when the job’s finished — as most big avionics upgrades do these days.

Stay tuned for the finished panel.

New gfc600 digital autopilot going into this Cessna Golden Eagle ✈️
Which means… a lot of old wiring coming out first 👀

Less cable, cleaner install, and a tidy weight saving once the new system is in.
Progress starts with a bit of organised wire chaos.

🐯 Or should that be… 🐷?

This Grumman AA-5 Tiger is in the Hangar for a Garmin audio panel installation.

With the tiger stripes and that flying pig decal, this one definitely has a bit of character. A tidy avionics upgrade underway to bring the audio side bang up to date

As 2025 comes to a close, we’ve taken a moment to look back on what’s been a busy and rewarding year at Bournemouth Avionics.

From scheduled maintenance and ongoing aircraft support, through to carefully planned avionics upgrades and modern panel installations, this year was very much about doing things properly rather than chasing volume.

See image attached: another one of our favourite installs from the year — a Glasair installation, designed and integrated to suit how the aircraft is flown.

We’ve shared a short reflection on 2025, along with a few headline figures and highlights, over on our website.

Earlier this year we installed an Aspen Pro MAX, GTN 750Xi, GTX 345R remote transponder, audio panel, and JPI FS-450 — today it’s time for the autopilot upgrade.

A great example of building a panel in stages.
