Another sliding door finished in Hammersmith, and the staircase behind it decided it wasn’t going to be upstaged.

Reeded glass on a black steel frame separates the hallway from the living room without closing it off, and the original balusters — properly sculptural, not your standard spindles — got restored rather than replaced. Cornicing stayed put too.

Full house renovation in Hammersmith. The original staircase stayed, restored and finished with a striped runner that carries all the way up. Steel-framed reeded glass doors now divide the front reception from the rest of the house — light gets through, the two rooms still feel separate.

Built-in shelving either side of the fireplace, original cornicing kept, and a wood-burning stove now sits where the old grate was.
