Advertising & Specialist Structures

With various prestigious sites across London and the South East we work together with contractors and advertising companies to create scaffold structures that can be used for ongoing building works which are then subsidized by advertising to the scaffold façade. A famous structure was the St Pauls Church in Hammersmith next to the A4 flyover. Our background

We are a well-established family run business that has been providing access solutions to the construction industry since 1974. Established by Michael and John Trayfoot, today the business is run by sons Matthew and John Jnr alongside Frank Pickford as Contracts Director. We believe that together with our excellent team of scaffolders and management we provide a great service earning us our long standing reputation for success.

🏆 Gold Award at the City of London Considerate Contractor Scheme 2026!

We've been awarded Gold for our work at 5 Aldermanbury Square in the City of London. Working in the Square Mile is a privilege and a discipline built over decades. You're operating in one of the busiest, most scrutinised parts of the country, with the public, neighbours, and the City itself watching.

We won this award because we backed an engineering approach the industry hasn't seen before - bringing innovation to site that improved both efficiency and safety, while supporting our client's sustainability goals.

This is our third City of London Gold Award - 2017, 2020, and now 2026. Proof of what this team is capable of, and a marker of how far we've come and where we're going.

This award belongs to James Davies, Josh Smith, Matt Trayfoot, and Jack Broadbent. You've earned this 👏

Engineering the unprecedented: a world-first tie configuration!

Six millimetres! That's how far we could pe*****te a 72-metre tower in the bustling city of London.

Four elevations scaffolded simultaneously, thousands of pedestrians passing beneath every day, and a structural constraint that meant standard scaffolding ties wouldn't work.

Because of the constraint to the façade and wind loadings, this project required scaffolding engineering that had never been attempted before.

We're proud to have earned The City of London Gold Award for this project.

Our Operations Manager, James Davies explains what made this project exceptional - and why some engineering challenges require solutions that have never existed before.

Falls from height are still the number one killer on UK construction sites. 35 workers died from falls in 2024/25, that's one death roughly every ten days.

Over the past five years, more than half of all construction deaths have been caused by falls from height, and 40% were over 60. Experienced workers. People who'd done the same job a thousand times before.

That's the problem with height. It doesn't care how many years you've got. It doesn't care that you've "always done it this way" it cares about the one time you don't.

In the coming weeks, we're talking about working at height. The risks, the reality of it and what we're doing about it.

Some projects stay with you for a lifetime.

When John and Michael Trayfoot, the founders of M R Scaffolding Services, first stood in front of HMS Belfast on the Thames, it was a reminder that the work we do helps protect structures that generations of people come to see and learn from.

Years later, his son Matt Trayfoot, our co-owner and Health & Safety Director, sat by the same river with the same ship behind him, continuing the work in a different capacity, but guided by the same principles.

The work on HMS Belfast focused on providing safe access to support the ongoing maintenance of the ship while protecting its historic structure.

Two generations, the same river, and the values that continue to guide how we work.

Over the last couple of years, we have been working with Tribe Culture Change to help us better understand where we are in terms of our safety culture.

An in-depth survey was carried out across the business which highlighted some really positive results, but also identified areas where we could improve. This gave us a valuable opportunity to reflect and consider how we could strengthen these aspects of our culture.

Over the past 18 months, Tribe has supported us in implementing a number of positive steps. As part of this progress, we are now rolling out our Safer Together campaign across the company.

So far, the campaign has been very well received and has created real engagement with our employees. It has been great to see sessions where people actively participate, rather than simply sitting and listening.

A big thank you to Tribe for supporting us through this journey and to everyone for being open-minded and receptive to these sessions.

Historic England's Heritage at Risk Register added 138 buildings this year. That means 1,460 structures are now at risk from neglect and decay.

Standard scaffolding doesn't work when you're holding up a heritage facade during live excavation.

The Grade II* listed Claridge's Hotel project is a good example. We scaffolded it while they excavated a five-storey basement underneath. The hotel stayed open, guests were still checking in, and load paths kept changing as excavation revealed the building's condition.

Heritage projects only work when scaffolding contractors, structural engineers, conservation specialists, and design teams work as genuine partners. It's a way of working we've built our heritage experience on.

The safest projects begin at the planning phase.

At M R, every project runs across three phases: planning, delivery, and support.

Each one has a job to do.

Early engagement means risks get identified before boots hit the ground. Method statements are written for the actual site - the constraints, the hazards, the conditions that matter. Teams are briefed on what's relevant to that project.

Safety happens when planning, delivery, and support function as they should - consistently, throughout the project lifecycle.

Three phases, one standard, consistent throughout.

That’s how we work. ⚫ 🟡

What makes a good scaffolding team?
Technical skill and years of experience matter, but there's something else: the ability to see what's coming.

Spotting challenges at the design stage creates an opportunity to plan more effectively. Working in collaboration with Engineers, health and safety, and other trades means we deliver the right access solutions from the outset.

Over the next few weeks, we'll be sharing more about the team behind what we do.

More coming soon.
