breathe in. there, you just did the thing you’ll do more than anything else in your life and you didn’t think about it once. the air arrived unannounced and you took it, because nobody opts out of the atmosphere. you make things. everyone in this room does. you know the weight of good stock, the exact wrong white, the hour lost to a finish nobody else will notice. you have spent your life paying attention to surfaces. but the air running through every studio and late night at the bench is the one material none of us ever thought to design. it enters you thousands of times a day, full of things nobody told you about. the dust of what you sanded, the slow chemistry of a closed room at 2am, the quiet difference between a space that holds you and one that wears you down. air is the original ambient, the background you stopped noticing the second you were born. it shapes how you feel and how long the good hours last, and it has always been invisible. so what has the air been trying to tell you?
