Modernising a dated bathroom this week in Elswick has not been without it's challenges.

One of the teams car has had to come off the road for various work, and another's moped hasn't been safe to use with the icy roads.

Every bathroom brings up it's own challenges, whether that be material delivery delays, out of square and plumb walls, old pipework under the floor with a mix of 10/15/22 mm pipes, old and seized stop taps in the kitchen, or damaged waterboard trenches in the pavement.

Weather or transport issues are now added to the list of things to be aware of, and for which solutions and work arounds have had to be found.

Putting more manpower on the job has allowed us to pull back the delays to the schedule, but now it's weekend we're taking a day off to recuperate and regenerate to be refreshed for the final push to finish early next week.

Every day a school day.

Always learning. Always aiming to improve.

Not just another lil bathroom job....

This has been a symphony of cooperation, collaboration, organisation and good old intensive teamwork.

One whole week with all cylinders firing.

We came out to visit this property in only a week ago for our good friends at Highgate Homes on behalf of their landlord on behalf of their tenants.

The bathroom floor tiles had cracks in them. The 'ask' was to take up the tiles and put new ones down.

However....

On removing the first few tiles parts of the chipboard floor underneath had literally turned to weetabix. We could poke a screwdriver through without any effort.

Several phone calls later and we got the go ahead to take out the suite, remove the floor and rebuild the bathroom.
Notwithstanding leaving on the majority of the wall tiles, we were thrown into a near full bathroom rip out.

We were already engaged between two full bathroom fit outs and another bathroom emergency that we picked up two days prior so, what we'd thought would be a half to full day job turned quickly into a full bathroom fit out that can sometimes take 2-3 weeks.

So, we put our thinking caps on, rolled up our sleeves, started bending time, and commenced our out reach to our helpful local suppliers.

What could we get our hands on both quickly and cost effectively to both meet our emergency deadline and keep costs to an acceptable minimum for the landlord?

Both Sam and Lee, our bathroom fitters, working morning to evening, and me on the go from 6am till 9pm darting round shops, ferrying supplies, fitting in our regular maintenance customers, and generally making sure we could pull it all off in record time, both for the property tenants whose life had turned upside down on the turn of a tile, and our customers whose jobs we didn't want to push back.

Thanks to GS Supplies, Screwfix, Clifton Trade Bathrooms Preston, Al-Murad Worktops Granite, Quartz & Ceramic worktops, Topps Tiles, Wickes for ensuring we could keep the work going without waiting for parts.

Second of two emergency bathroom jobs this week.

The lads are in-between 3 large bathroom jobs at present, so it was an absolute fluke that we could jump on both of these jobs to help out the customers.

This bathroom the customer was ripping out themselves so their son-in-law could tile, and they required a plumber who could sort disconnection, then first and second fix staged around their ripout and tiling. Sadly their plumber had some personal issues and so on learning about the relative pickle they were in we said we'd do our upmost to accommodate the work so the family weren't suffering with dust and lack of facilities.
Pipework has been modified and sunk into the walls, and a shower tray has been fitted.
Over to the son-in-law now before we're called back in a week or two to finalise works.

Initial assessment showed cracked tiles to 60% of the bathroom floor.
Mostly hairline cracks, but one tile had a 5mm depression.
It seemed like the floorboards underneath would be water damaged to some extent.

Simple WATER though can be very damaging to your home if it gets through cracls and seals.

We removed some tiles and could literally push a screwdriver through the water perished chipboard in places.

In the interests of safety we are having to pull out all the suite, fully replace the floor, and rebuild the bathroom.

It's no walk in the park running your own business.

There's so many positive things occurring with our business of late, but seemingly this is balanced with an incredible amount of challenges.

But it's how one reacts, adapts, and keeps on forging forward that makes you stand out in the end.

We keep on keeping on 💪🔥

Today was made all the sweeter though by taking my monthly float at Liquid Reset. Best session yet 🙌💜

And even better meeting up with this stand out dude after 4 years or so. Similarly, Jason has been through the mill, and similarly he has a very robust constitution and outlook on life.

He always seeks to find the positives in every situation whilst aiming to be of service to others, whether that's his customers at Timber Tree Services or his fellow business contemporaries at the various networking events he attends.

This man is connected, he's business savvy, and he's a great asset to keep in your corner.

Oh, and he's a pro when it comes to anything from garden maintenance through to felling extremely large trees.
He'll now be our JHI go-to expert whenever any of our customers have such requirements

Finally we can reveal the Lancaster bathroom project that's been going on behind the scenes over the last month.

A very nice young couple had bought their first property and we were invited up to check out their upstairs back bedroom....because the neighbour had that same room as a bathroom.

We took up the floor, explained what we could and couldn't do, and listened to what they had in mind.

We commenced the work without a clear plan in place because the customers hadn't yet chosen all their suite items or tiles, but were under some pressure to soon move out of their rented accommodation.

Their primary wish was to have a bathroom that would fit around their most desired wooden Finnish sauna.

Although the sauna has yet to arrive, we have completed the bathroom now as much as is possible. Save the bespoke size glass panel that will go on top of the dwarf tiled stud wall (3 week delivery date from ordering has thrown a spanner into the works there).

Sunday I took the day off work.

Today I felt like someone must have bashed my thighs with a baseball bat in the night.

🤔 scratching my head for a few minutes, I then recalled that yesterday morning I'd climbed Parlick and ran back down again, chasing my 18 year old son 🤷‍♂️👣🤯.

It then clicked 🤦‍♂️😫🤣

It was a great view though !

White metro tiling commencing Monday.

Always good when our customers have a clear idea of what they're actually wanting.
