🏗️ A major milestone has been reached at All Saints Church, Mudeford, with the new roof structure now arriving on site and being carefully lifted into position.

Following the devastating fire in 2022, it's fantastic to see the rebuilding project continuing to take shape. As Structural Engineers on the scheme, we've been proud to work alongside the church team, architects, contractors and fellow consultants to help bring this important listed building back to life.

Seeing the primary structural frame being installed is a rewarding moment for everyone involved and another step closer to welcoming the community back. ⛪

👏 Great work by all involved and amazing drone photos by Paul from the church team.

It’s a good day at AWA if your name starts with J! 😄

We’re delighted to celebrate three fantastic achievements across the team:

👏 Jacqui Williams – Following her promotion to Accounts Manager, Jacqui has continued to build on her development by studying and successfully completing her exams to become an AAT Qualified Bookkeeper.

👏 Jessie Au – The submission of her dissertation marked the successful conclusion of her MSc masters degree in Advanced Geotechnical Engineering.

👏 Joshua Powell – Since joining us as a Graduate, Josh has shown real dedication and enthusiasm, and we’re proud to see his journey continue with a well-earned promotion to Senior Structural Engineer.

Congratulations to you all! 🎉

🔨 Timber Repair Insight at St James the Less Church

There are lots of timber joints to choose from, and getting the right one in a historic structure is key.

At St James the Less Church, we used a scissors joint to repair the decayed king post 🪵. This helped preserve as much of the original historic fabric as possible as well as creating a strong, reliable interface between old and new timber.

Not the easiest detail to form in-situ, but a great piece of workmanship from JPConservation, working alongside Clews Architects Ltd. 👷‍♂️🤝

A nice example of careful, collaborative conservation in action.

We’re proud to share that Rose Cottage, Frogham has won Best Conservation Project at the New Forest National Park Authority Building Design Awards 2025 🎉

As structural engineers on this Grade II listed thatched cottage, it’s been incredibly rewarding to help bring a 200-year-old clay cob building back from years of disrepair. Working closely with the National Park’s heritage conservation team, the cottage was carefully restored using traditional materials and techniques to protect its historic character. A single-storey lean-to was sympathetically rebuilt and finished in Rose of Jericho tallow limewash, matched to the original colour.

A brilliant team effort and a project we’re truly proud to have supported. 💚

Thanks to Jacob Thomas at Ecologic SIPs for delivering a highly informative CPD on their sustainable SIP Structures today. The session provided a strong technical overview of the key benefits, design considerations, optimisation strategies, and the manufacturing process for efficient incorporation into building design.

We also valued the opportunity to reflect on the close AWA–Ecologic collaboration on structural engineering, supporting coordinated and well-integrated SIPs solutions across projects.

Thanks also to Dan Allen for outlining AWA’s design input and approach.

A really useful technical session and excellent cross-team knowledge sharing 📐🏗️🤝

Huge congratulations to Chris Warren on an incredible 20 years with AWA! 🎉

To celebrate this milestone, we presented Chris with the ultimate gift - the Oasis Complete Studio Album Collection on Vinyl… still in the wrapping, and if we know Chris, it might stay that way forever! 😄

When asked why he’s stayed with AWA for two decades, Chris said: “It’s simple - I’ve always loved the people I work with. It’s a great place to work.”

Thanks for your hard work, loyalty, and great humour over the last 20 years, Chris - here’s to many more! 👏

We’re pleased to share the completion of a new timber footbridge project for Exmoor National Park Authority 🌿

We were commissioned to review the existing standard Exmoor footbridge design and develop a suite of next generation, fully code-compliant designs to support future projects across the park. A particularly special aspect of this scheme is that the Authority sourced their own timber - felling, milling and machining the material themselves - creating a truly local and sustainable solution.

Swipe through to see the transformation, with photos showing the bridge before, during and after construction. It’s been a privilege to support a project that combines traditional craftsmanship, sustainability and robust engineering to help improve access to Exmoor’s beautiful landscapes.

We’re delighted to share that All Saints Church, Fleet has won the 2026 AABC Conservation Award at the Civic Trust Awards ceremony last night 🎉

Following a devastating arson attack in 2015, the Grade II listed Victorian church underwent a careful restoration and full structural rebuild to address deterioration, modernise services and improve accessibility, all guided by a conservation approach focused on minimal intervention and repair over replacement.

AWA supported the project by assessing the fire damage, identifying elements that could be retained, and developing engineering solutions to reinstate the complex curved roof, address challenging ground conditions, and introduce modern upgrades such as a new limecrete floor with underfloor heating - all while safeguarding the building’s historic character for future generations.

As the judges noted: “The scheme successfully demonstrates how thoughtful restoration and reordering can secure the future of a historic church while respecting its past.”

A huge thank you to the fantastic team and collaborators who made this possible:
