We visited our Rod Mill to capture this impressive section of the process.

Fresh from Caster 5, bloom stock exits the Walking Beam Furnace at around 1,100°C before passing through a high-pressure descaler and into the 7-stand Breakdown Mill, where its cross-section is reduced to 123mm round.

The material is then cut by the crank shear into two billets, ready for the next stage of processing, effectively producing two coils from every bloom.

Every stage of the process is carefully controlled to ensure the quality and consistency our customers expect.

Our 28 first-year apprentices are making the most of their plant preparation programme, gaining hands-on insight into our operations ahead of their first site placements in September.

From visiting key production areas and workshops to completing specialist health and safety training, they're building the skills and confidence needed for life on site.

Meanwhile, after successfully completing their year with TTE, our Northern Mills apprentices have been supporting key shutdown activities at the Skinningrove and Teesside sites before moving into their permanent departments to continue their development.

We're delighted that 70 apprentices will be joining British Steel this September. Investing in the next generation is vital to our future, and we look forward to seeing the skills, ideas and talent they bring to our business.

British Steel is now recruiting scores of apprentices, creating new opportunities for young people to build skilled careers in one of Britain's foundation industries.

For too long, our industrial communities were asked to accept decline as inevitable. We are doing things differently. Protecting our strategic industries, backing British manufacturing and rebuilding the skills that will power our economy for decades to come.

It was fantastic to see the new British Steel-sponsored shirt make its competitive debut on Saturday as Scunthorpe United FC kicked off their The National League season against Yeovil Town.

We're proud to continue supporting The Iron and the local community through our shirt sponsorship.

Well done to the team on earning a point on the opening day with a hard-fought draw against Yeovil Town.
