Before and after home extensions are our favourite type of post.

Our Somersall House project updated a tired Arts & Crafts inspired home with new family spaces. A subtle internal reconfiguration and two single-story side extensions means our client now has functional spaces filled with natural light and room to entertain, both inside and out.

Our full case study can be found on the Projects page of our website.

So how do you convert a disused concrete agricultural barn into five new family homes fit for modern life?

At Peak, we’re about challenging what’s possible. Designing beautiful, functional homes within the constraints of complex planning regulations is one of the most common challenges we encounter.

The result for Hill View Farm is a clever transformation where the original structure has been retained and repurposed into comfortable modern homes. Celebrating the robust agricultural character within a rural setting, whilst complying with stringent Class Q rules.

Congratulations to our Project Architect, Will, on becoming a Certified Passive House Designer.

Widely regarded as one of the most rigorous and trusted standards in low-energy building design, this achievement means we can now deliver Passivhaus design services in-house, alongside low-energy modelling for all projects using PHPP.

More than just a new credential, this represents a deep understanding of building physics, high-quality construction and energy performance.

A fantastic accomplishment, well done Will!

Great progress being made on our site in Hillsborough, Sheffield.

All asbestos has been safely removed, and the reroofing is nearly complete, with rooflight panels going in to flood the new areas with natural light. New insulated composite panels are being installed to keep the spaces (and the doggos) warm.

When complete, the new facility will include specialist areas for canine wellbeing, such as a space for routine health checks and for down time between training sessions. This carefully designed environment will help assistance dogs as they progress through their training, ensuring the best possible care for them while at the centre and supporting their longer-term welfare needs throughout their lives.

We’re excited to see the works on site progressing and we can’t wait to see the unit full of incredible dogs (and people).

On our new build project in Edale, the stonework is complete, doors and windows are now installed with final trims to follow, and the internal fittings are coming along nicely. The combination of the reclaimed and new cut stone looks superb – big thanks to the skill and diligence of the contractor, carefully chosen to complement both the surrounding landscape and the existing farmhouse.

We’ll be sharing more about this project soon, including our approach to achieving low-energy, sustainable standards.

Can you name them all?

Passivhaus is founded on a set of fundamental principles, combining three core strategic approaches with five key building measures, all integrated to consistently deliver exceptional energy efficiency, comfort, and long-term durability.

Shape, windows, insulation airtightness and ventilation.

Thanks to our Project Architect, Will, for the sketches. Let’s hope it comes up at the next Pub Quiz.
