🔧 Day in the Life: Straaltechniek Service Team - Part 2

Following on from the machine move, the next stage of the project was getting the shot blasting machine into its new position and carrying out work to the blast cabinet.

Once the machine had been repositioned and aligned, our service team turned their attention to the inside of the cabinet.

The existing lining was replaced with manganese wear plates, helping to protect the cabinet in areas exposed to the abrasive blasting process and ongoing wear.

From positioning and alignment through to relining, it’s all part of the varied work our service engineers carry out when supporting customers and their existing shot blasting equipment.

Next up: the finished installation.

🔧 Day in the Life: Straaltechniek Service Team

We’re taking you behind the scenes with our service team on a recent machine relocation project.

The job involved relocating an existing shot blasting machine to a new position within the customer’s factory - but the work didn’t stop there.

As part of the project, our engineers also carried out work inside the blast cabinet, including relining it with manganese.

Over the next few posts, we’ll be following the team through the different stages of the job, from moving and repositioning the machine through to the cabinet reline and finished installation.

📸 Part 1: The machine move

Here’s a look at the team getting the relocation underway.

What is an industrial blast room and when might your business need one?

For businesses regularly blasting large components, fabrications or structures, an industrial blast room can provide a dedicated environment for carrying out surface preparation in-house.

But what does a blast room actually include, and what should you consider when deciding whether one is right for your operation?

Our latest article takes a closer look at industrial blast rooms, including how they work, abrasive recovery, dust extraction and the different options available.

👉 Read the full article: https://straaltechniek.co.uk/news/what-is-an-industrial-blast-room-and-when-does-your-business-need-one/

If you have an upcoming blast room requirement or would like to discuss the options available, get in touch with us.

For manufacturers working with large, heavy or irregularly shaped components, conventional blast cabinets and automatic shot blasting machines are not always suitable. For larger components, high-volume work or applications where a standard blast cabinet simply isn’t suitable, a dedicated blast room can provide the space and flexibility needed to carry out surface preparation in-house.

At Straaltechniek UK, we can provide complete blast room solutions, designed around the application, component size, available space and production requirements.

A complete system can incorporate:

• Blast room enclosure
• Abrasive recovery and recycling systems
• Dust extraction and filtration
• Blast equipment
• Media handling systems
• Controls and safety features

Whether it’s a new installation or improvements to an existing blasting facility, the aim is to create a practical system that supports efficient blasting, effective abrasive recovery and a controlled working environment.

Our team can support projects from the initial concept and specification through to supply, installation and ongoing engineering support.

📩 Looking at bringing blasting in-house, expanding your current capacity or upgrading an existing blast room? Get in touch with Straaltechniek UK to discuss your requirements.

📢 From days or weeks to just 2–3 minutes.

A customer recently approached Straaltechniek UK looking for a quicker and more efficient way to remove ceramic coatings from their components.

Their existing chemical stripping process could take anything from several days to weeks to achieve the required result.

The components were trialled using a pressure hand blast cabinet and the required finish was achieved in just 2–3 minutes.

Following the successful results, the customer has since purchased a similar type of machine to bring the process in-house.

A great example of how the right surface preparation process can significantly reduce processing times and improve efficiency.

If you're experiencing challenges with coating removal or surface preparation, speak to us about the equipment and solutions available.

🚛 Another 10 Straaltechniek GN Wheels on the way...

When our customer first approached us, they didn't replace all 12 blast wheels on their machine.

Instead, they chose to retrofit just 2 Straaltechniek GN Wheels® to compare the performance against their existing wheels.

The results spoke for themselves.

✅ 86% reduction in consumable costs
✅ Increased blasting performance
✅ Lower maintenance requirements
✅ Reduced abrasive consumption
✅ Improved operational efficiency

The trial was so successful that they've now placed an order for the remaining 10 wheels to complete the retrofit across the entire machine.

For us, that's the best kind of endorsement. Not because we say the GN Wheel performs better, but because our customers experience the difference and choose to upgrade the rest of their equipment.

If you're running an older wheel blasting machine, you don't always need to replace the entire system to achieve significant improvements. Sometimes, upgrading the blast wheels can transform productivity while reducing ongoing operating costs.

✈️ What is shot peening – and why do aerospace manufacturers rely on it?

When an aerospace component is subjected to repeated stress, even microscopic surface cracks can develop into critical failures over time.

That's where shot peening makes the difference.

Shot peening is a controlled cold working process in which small spherical media are propelled at high velocity onto a metal surface. Each impact creates beneficial compressive residual stresses, helping to delay crack initiation and slow crack growth.

The result?

✅ Increased fatigue life
✅ Greater resistance to stress corrosion cracking
✅ Improved durability of critical components
✅ Enhanced reliability in demanding operating conditions

This is why shot peening is widely used on aerospace components such as landing gear, turbine blades, engine components, springs and structural assemblies - where performance, safety and consistency are essential.

At Straaltechniek, we help manufacturers achieve repeatable, high-quality shot peening processes through advanced equipment and technical expertise, helping customers improve component performance, extend service life and maintain consistent quality.
