Want to perform better? Start by recovering better.

Localised cryotherapy works by applying controlled cold therapy to targeted areas of the body. This rapid cooling causes vasoconstriction, where blood vessels narrow and blood flow to the area temporarily reduces.

Once the cold stimulus is removed, the body responds with vasodilation, where the blood vessels reopen and circulation increases. This is often known as the “flush effect.”

This natural response may help support performance by encouraging fresh, oxygen-rich blood flow back into the treated area, assisting with the removal of metabolic waste and helping muscles and joints feel lighter, looser, and more ready for activity.

For athletes, performers, working dogs, horses, and active individuals, this targeted recovery support can be especially valuable after training, competition, or repetitive strain.

Localised cryotherapy is not just about feeling cold. It is about using the body’s own circulatory response to support recovery, mobility, and readiness.

Recover smarter. Move better. Perform stronger.

10 years ago, TruCryo started with one mission: to engineer world-class cryotherapy technology from the UK.

Today, we are proud to celebrate 10 years of TruCryo — a decade of design, manufacturing, innovation, education, and sector-specific cryotherapy solutions.

Manufactured in Shrewsbury, UK, at the heart of the Industrial Revolution, TruCryo carries forward a proud engineering tradition. Our devices are designed and patented by engineers, built to the ISO 13485 standard demanded by the modern wellness, recovery, aesthetics, sports, veterinary, and professional treatment industries.

But TruCryo has never been just about devices.

Over the last decade, we have helped lead the way in cryotherapy education, working alongside medical professionals, therapists, practitioners, trainers, and industry specialists to support safe, effective, and professional treatment standards.

By combining quality engineering, clinical insight, and hands-on education, we have developed a range of cryotherapy devices tailored to specific business sectors, alongside our flagship KaasenPro — a professional all-round system designed for those who want advanced cryotherapy performance across multiple applications.

From concept to manufacture, our focus has always been the same:
British engineering. Professional education. Trusted performance.

Thank you to every clinic, practitioner, therapist, trainer, athlete, customer, and partner who has been part of the TruCryo journey.

Here’s to 10 years of innovation — and to the next decade of cold therapy excellence.

Localised cryotherapy: Where I think it fits well

Localised cryotherapy can be useful for:

Post-exercise recovery, especially after hard gallops, jumping, travel, or competition.

Acute soft-tissue soreness, where reducing local heat and discomfort is desirable.

Managing inflammation around distal limbs, particularly when there is heat, filling, or post-work response.

Tendon and ligament support, but only as part of a vet-led plan if there is an actual lesion.

Back, gluteal, hamstring, shoulder, and neck muscle soreness, where local cooling may help comfort and tone.

Early-stage management of knocks, bruising, and localised heat, assuming there is no open wound or serious underlying injury.

The strongest equine evidence for cryotherapy is still around distal limb cooling and laminitis-related inflammatory control, rather than broad performance recovery. A review in Veterinary Evidence described moderate evidence for distal limb cryotherapy in laminitis, while noting limitations in the available studies. Another equine study found cryotherapy produced transient analgesia in an induced lameness model, which is useful but also raises an important caution: it may temporarily reduce pain without resolving the cause.

The big advantage of localised cryotherapy

The main benefit is that it is precise. Compared with cold hosing or ice boots, localised cryotherapy lets you treat a defined region quickly: a suspensory branch, hock region, lumbar area, hamstrings, gluteals, cervical muscles, or a specific area of heat.

That is useful in a team environment because horses often need short, repeatable, targeted sessions that fit around training, travel, turnout, farriery, and vet visits.
