Motion-PLC combines motion control with PLC functionality for machines up to 8 servo axes, achieving high performance with fast development.

The trend of integrating PLC functions and motion coordination into a single controller is simplifying machine design.

For builders of discrete machines with a focus on performance, using a PLC as well as a separate motion controller has often been required.

However, it takes significant time to ensure that the two controllers can reliably communicate.

Meanwhile, for machine users, maintenance issues when the machine has been commissioned are more difficult to resolve.

Instead, the familiarity of PLCs means that some machine builders might still rely on them for motion control as well as logic - even if that means a compromise in motion performance.

In response, an emerging trend is to take a motion controller platform and add the functionality of a PLC.

Retaining intelligence in a central controller reduces complexity in machine build, but you still need high-performance motion control at each servo axis.

Everything you need, nothing more: this is what Trio’s DX3 EtherCAT servo drive and MX servo motors provide machine builders.

Organised by the EtherCAT Technology Group, the goal of this developer event is to perform interoperability tests to improve integration and share implementation tips.

For Trio, the EtherCAT Plug Fest is the event to test our EtherCAT products and share knowledge with other vendors. We've attended many Plug Fests over the years - in fact, this image shows Richard Ellis and Simon Baker at a previous edition.
