Stoketon Cross continues to take shape, with significant progress now visible across both the new junction and spine road.

Managing works on the A38 between Plymouth and Liskeard requires careful planning and coordination, with the team successfully advancing the scheme while maintaining traffic on one of the South West's busiest strategic routes.

Across the western side of the scheme, the attenuation pond is now operational, earthworks have been completed, first-stage surfacing has been laid and the new roundabout is progressing well. Alongside this progress, the new spine road is becoming increasingly visible, with earthworks complete, drainage underway and the first sections of surfacing now in place.

Next stages of the project include drainage, kerbing, topsoiling and continued highway activities as the scheme builds towards another major milestone. August will see the team commence a programme of night-time working to deliver the central section of the roundabout, helping maintain momentum while returning the A38 to traffic each morning.

Momentum continues to build as the project moves towards its next major phase of delivery.

We recently delivered a new field-side walkway at Cleeve School and Sixth Form Centre of Excellence in Bishop’s Cleeve, Cheltenham, improving access, movement and the day-to-day running of the site for staff and students.

Working within a live school environment and alongside other ongoing works, the team maintained close coordination with school staff to minimise disruption and ensure programme continuity.

“This is transformative for us as a school…” - P Baker, Head of Operations and Facilities, Cleeve School.

“The field-side walkway is already making a huge difference to the operational running of the school.” - A Richards, Executive Head, Cleeve School.

This feedback reflects the standard our people set on every project - taking pride in delivery and creating outcomes that make a genuine difference.

Thank you to Keyline, Civils Store , Frazer's and AllStone, whose generous donations played a key role in bringing this project to life.

𝗦𝗮𝗳𝗲𝘁𝘆 𝗦𝘁𝗮𝗻𝗱 𝗗𝗼𝘄𝗻

At Montel, we believe strong health and safety performance comes from continuous learning, open conversations and a willingness to improve. During June, we held Safety Stand-Down events on every live site over a seven-day period, bringing together teams across all regions and divisions to focus on the behaviours and conversations that keep people safe.

Teams from across our Black Dog Way project came together with our supply chain partners and client for a dedicated Safety Stand-Down, taking time away from day-to-day delivery to reflect, learn and reinforce the behaviours that help everyone return home safely.

Hands-on demonstrations and interactive discussions brought key topics to life, including people-plant interface, operator visibility, exclusion zones and dynamic risk assessment. More importantly, the day created an opportunity for everyone to ask questions, share experiences and contribute ideas that will strengthen the way we work.

Honest conversations reinforced the importance of speaking up, learning from one another and creating a culture where everyone feels confident to challenge unsafe situations – small improvements, shared across a team, can make a significant difference.

It was particularly rewarding to receive such positive feedback from our client, who recognised the level of engagement across the team and the continued commitment shown towards promoting a positive and proactive health and safety culture.

Thank you to everyone who contributed, shared their experiences and helped make the day such a success.

Net Zero Week gives us a chance to pause and recognise the positive steps being taken across our industry to reduce carbon emissions.

At Montel, progress has come from a combination of innovation, collaboration and a willingness to challenge how things have always been done. HVO fuel, solar-powered generators, electric tools, renewable energy supplies and local procurement are all playing their part.

Those efforts have helped reduce our carbon emissions by more than 1,100 tonnes of CO₂e since our 2021/22 baseline, and we're committed to building on that progress in the years ahead.
