𝗔 𝗱𝗮𝘆 𝘁𝗼 𝗿𝗲𝗺𝗲𝗺𝗯𝗲𝗿.

On 11 September, we officially inaugurated 𝗘𝗩𝗔𝟯 𝗶𝗻 𝗭𝗲𝗿𝗼 𝗕𝗿𝗮𝗻𝗰𝗼 — marking an important new chapter in HBI's journey.

It was a day of conversations, ideas and encounters, bringing together institutions, industry, research, partners, colleagues, friends and families around a shared vision for the future of wastewater treatment.

A future where wastewater treatment plants can become 𝗨𝗿𝗯𝗮𝗻 𝗖𝗶𝗿𝗰𝘂𝗹𝗮𝗿 𝗕𝗶𝗼𝗿𝗲𝗳𝗶𝗻𝗲𝗿𝗶𝗲𝘀:
places where 𝘄𝗮𝘁𝗲𝗿, 𝗲𝗻𝗲𝗿𝗴𝘆 𝗮𝗻𝗱 𝘃𝗮𝗹𝘂𝗮𝗯𝗹𝗲 𝗿𝗲𝘀𝗼𝘂𝗿𝗰𝗲𝘀 can be recovered,
creating new value for territories and communities.

But beyond the technology and the project, the day was about people —
the people who have supported this journey, made 𝗘𝗩𝗔𝟯 possible and joined us to celebrate this milestone.

Thank you to everyone who was there.

A place where water, energy and critical resources are regenerated.
This is the vision of the 𝗨𝗿𝗯𝗮𝗻 𝗖𝗶𝗿𝗰𝘂𝗹𝗮𝗿 𝗕𝗶𝗼𝗿𝗲𝗳𝗶𝗻𝗲𝗿𝘆.

𝗜𝗻 𝗷𝘂𝘀𝘁 𝗮 𝗳𝗲𝘄 𝗱𝗮𝘆𝘀, 𝘄𝗲 𝘄𝗶𝗹𝗹 𝘂𝗻𝘃𝗲𝗶𝗹 𝗘𝗩𝗔𝟯

𝗘𝘃𝗲𝗿𝘆 𝘁𝗲𝗰𝗵𝗻𝗼𝗹𝗼𝗴𝘆 𝗿𝗲𝗮𝗰𝗵𝗲𝘀 𝗮 𝗱𝗲𝗳𝗶𝗻𝗶𝗻𝗴 𝗺𝗼𝗺𝗲𝗻𝘁.
Not when it works.

When it's ready to create value at industrial scale.
EVA wasn't developed to remain a demonstration project.

It was designed to become a replicable industrial solution.
Because real innovation doesn't stop at proving an idea.
𝗜𝘁 𝗰𝗼𝗻𝘁𝗶𝗻𝘂𝗲𝘀 𝘂𝗻𝘁𝗶𝗹 𝘁𝗵𝗮𝘁 𝗶𝗱𝗲𝗮 𝗰𝗮𝗻 𝗺𝗮𝗸𝗲 𝗮 𝗺𝗲𝗮𝘀𝘂𝗿𝗮𝗯𝗹𝗲 𝗶𝗺𝗽𝗮𝗰𝘁.

At HBI, everything started with a simple idea:
What if sewage sludge could become a resource instead of a problem?
That question became a vision.
That vision became EVA.

Because every great transformation begins the same way:
with a question.

07/07/2026

Every transformation begins with a change in perspective.
Before a resource can be regenerated, someone has to imagine that it still has value.

𝗔𝘁 𝗛𝗕𝗜, 𝗥𝗲𝗴𝗲𝗻𝗲𝗿𝗮𝘁𝗶𝗼𝗻 𝗯𝗲𝗴𝗶𝗻𝘀 𝗹𝗼𝗻𝗴 𝗯𝗲𝗳𝗼𝗿𝗲 𝘁𝗲𝗰𝗵𝗻𝗼𝗹𝗼𝗴𝘆.
It begins with the way we look at the world.

𝗙𝗿𝗼𝗺 𝗿𝗲𝘀𝗲𝗮𝗿𝗰𝗵 𝘁𝗼 𝗶𝗺𝗽𝗮𝗰𝘁.

What started as an idea is now attracting the attention of universities, engineers and innovation ecosystems across Europe.

This is what happens when innovation moves beyond the lab and into the real world.
We're proud to be part of a journey where research becomes industrial reality.

𝗘𝘃𝗲𝗿𝘆 𝗶𝗻𝗻𝗼𝘃𝗮𝘁𝗶𝗼𝗻 𝗵𝗮𝘀 𝗮 𝘀𝘁𝗼𝗿𝘆.

Ours started with a research project, grew thanks to collaboration, and today is becoming an industrial reality helping wastewater treatment plants recover energy, water and valuable resources.

This video is not only about technology.

It is about curiosity, persistence, teamwork and the people who choose to transform challenges into opportunities.

Thank you to NOI Techpark for sharing this journey.

♻️ Can wastewater treatment plants become energy neutral?

At the 𝟵𝘁𝗵 𝗘𝘅𝗽𝗲𝗿𝘁 𝗙𝗼𝗿𝘂𝗺 𝗼𝗻 𝗛𝘆𝗱𝗿𝗼𝘁𝗵𝗲𝗿𝗺𝗮𝗹 𝗣𝗿𝗼𝗰𝗲𝘀𝘀𝗲𝘀, HBI presented a real-scale case showing how the integration of HTC, anaerobic digestion and syngas valorization can unlock more renewable energy from sewage sludge.

Key findings:
✅ Up to +25% biogas production
✅ 100% coverage of the thermal demand of the HBI process
✅ Additional potential for electricity generation

By recovering more energy, nutrients and water from sludge, wastewater treatment plants can move closer to 𝗲𝗻𝗲𝗿𝗴𝘆 𝗻𝗲𝘂𝘁𝗿𝗮𝗹𝗶𝘁𝘆 𝘄𝗵𝗶𝗹𝗲 𝗿𝗲𝗱𝘂𝗰𝗶𝗻𝗴 𝗺𝗮𝗻𝗮𝗴𝗲𝗺𝗲𝗻𝘁 𝗰𝗼𝘀𝘁𝘀 𝗮𝗻𝗱 𝗶𝗺𝗽𝗿𝗼𝘃𝗶𝗻𝗴 𝗰𝗶𝗿𝗰𝘂𝗹𝗮𝗿𝗶𝘁𝘆.

At HBI, we don't see sewage sludge as waste.

We see it as a resource with untapped value.

Our first meeting with the 𝗘𝘂𝗿𝗼𝗽𝗲𝗮𝗻 𝗦𝘂𝘀𝘁𝗮𝗶𝗻𝗮𝗯𝗹𝗲 𝗣𝗵𝗼𝘀𝗽𝗵𝗼𝗿𝘂𝘀 𝗣𝗹𝗮𝘁𝗳𝗼𝗿𝗺 (𝗘𝗦𝗣𝗣) 𝗶𝗻 𝗠𝗮𝗱𝗿𝗶𝗱.

As Europe prepares for the implementation of the revised Urban Waste Water Treatment Directive, phosphorus recovery is becoming a strategic priority for the water sector.

At HBI, we shared our vision for a viable circular phosphorus supply chain:
local resource recovery,
centralized upgrading hubs,
scalable model capable of supporting long-term economic sustainability.
