Absolutely.

Robusta can bring more intensity, body and structure to your espresso, but the right filter basket can help you decide which qualities to highlight in the cup.

If you’re looking for a more balanced espresso, with greater sweetness and a full but smooth body, the IMS Competition filter is a great choice. Its shape helps water flow evenly through the coffee puck, supporting balance and helping control bitterness.

Can a single shot deliver a truly good extraction? ☕⚡

At World of Coffee Brussels, we compared the new IMS Step down Laser Brew Single Shot with a competitor filter and the IMS Competition filter.

The goal was simple: understand how different basket geometries can affect consistency, dose flexibility and the final cup.

With Step Down, you can work with a wider coffee dose range, from 7g to 9g, while preserving the character of your coffee.

For this test, we used an Ethiopian coffee with floral and fruity notes, a perfect profile to highlight clarity and precision in extraction.

Can a single basket really perform like a double basket? ☕⚡

For this espresso cupping, we compared two extractions using a washed Ethiopian coffee, known for its floral and citrus notes.

In the cup extracted with the double basket, we found notes of white flower honey, candied orange and apricot.

With the single basket, the profile was surprisingly complex: white flowers, caramel, bergamot and cocoa.

An impressive result, especially considering the low dose and the use of a light roasted coffee.

A new way to rethink single dose extraction.

How do you make a good Café Crème? ☕✨

Start with the E&B Lab All In One filter basket.

Use the same dose you would normally use for an espresso extraction, single or double, then extract directly into a cappuccino cup until it’s full.

The result is a lighter beverage with an espresso extraction, but without being too intense or over extracted.

For a single dose, our recipe is:

How can you improve espresso extraction with Slayer EP? ☕⚡

For this setup, we used the IMS Big Bang filter together with the Big Bang diffuser, working with the PRE-WET settings of the machine.

The Big Bang diffuser helps improve water distribution over the coffee puck, reducing the risk of channeling and supporting a more even extraction.

Paired with the Big Bang filter, it creates a setup designed for better balance, consistency and control in the cup.

Extraction tips with La Cimbali M200. ☕⚙️

From the London Coffee Festival, we tested a setup designed to highlight clarity, acidity and natural aromas in the cup.

For this extraction, we used the IMS Superfine filter to bring out the coffee’s bright notes, together with the Ermes Dual Grinder and its 75 mm burrs to preserve aroma and consistency.

To improve water distribution over the coffee puck, we also added a diffuser and worked with 2.5 seconds of pre-infusion, helping enhance the acidity and balance of the espresso.

Small adjustments. Big impact in the cup.
