If you’ve ever had a long day on the mountain, you’ll know that hot chips REALLY hit the spot after shredding the slopes. But how do you power electric fryers - and a whole ski field - in a remote alpine environment? 🏔️

Mt Hutt uses Meridian’s Certified Renewable Energy to power their operations. From electric fryers to solar panels, they’re working towards their goal of being carbon neutral by 2030.

We took a trip up the mountain to see how they’re making it happen.

🚧 Heads up: Major road changes near Te Rere Hau Wind Farm 🚧

We’re underway with upgrades to the North Range Road corridor and the North Range Road / Pahiatua Track intersection as part of works required for the repowering of Te Rere Hau Wind Farm. The main focus of this work is making safety improvements at the intersection. While we’re doing this, there’ll be traffic control on Pahiatua Track, and North Range Road will be closed to all traffic for up to five months to allow construction work to be done safely.

We know this is disruptive, but please respect the workers on site, and follow all instructions. Temporary traffic lights are there for your safety and that of others - please don’t ignore them. This work involves extensive earthworks, with excavators and dump trucks actively working in the area, crossing the road frequently and sometimes operating within it.

Alternative access to properties on North Range Road will be provided to authorised people, but access by the public isn’t permitted during the works. Please get in touch at [email protected] if you require access or have any questions.

It’s a bit of a pain, but it’s very important, and the work is only temporary. We appreciate everyone’s patience and understanding as we work together to make this intersection safer.

Construction = jobs 🏗️

When we build, we create jobs. And when we create jobs, we prioritise local employment.

Right now we’re busy building our Ruakākā Solar Farm thanks to the efforts of hundreds of workers - many of them locals.

We know how important it is to be good neighbours and be a part of the communities we’re working in. That’s why we’re extremely proud to be building the renewable electricity generation New Zealand needs, and continuing to local economies while we do so.

Today is 🦜
A moment to celebrate parrots around the world - and here in Aotearoa, one very special (and very rare) one 💚

The kākāpō is one of the world’s rarest parrots, and a true taonga species. With fewer than 250 birds alive, every step in their recovery matters, which is why we’re proud to be the National Partner of the Kākāpō Recovery Programme.

And with 2026 already shaping up to be a strong breeding season, there’s real hope for the future of this remarkable species.

We’re proud to play our part in helping protect the kākāpō for generations to come. 💚

Graveyard Shift has a unique job: restoring overgrown and forgotten cemeteries. 🪦

Traditionally, that work would rely on loud petrol engines and heavy tools - disrupting spaces meant for peace and reflection. But with support from Meridian’s Community Decarbonisation Fund, Graveyard Shift were able to upgrade to quieter, electric power tools. 🔋

It’s a change that aligns closely with their kaupapa to tread as lightly as possible, from home baking and aluminium drink cans, to the tools they use on the job.

Powered by the community, and now by Certified Renewable Energy.

It’s a special project for a special place - that’ll lead to some very special results 🌿

There’s very important work happening in Murihiku Southland. Te Kōawa Tūroa o Takitimu Mahika Kai Cultural Park is all about restoring the natural environment - it requires some hard graft, but our team's up for it!

Te Waiau Mahika Kai Trust was formed in recognition of significance of this whenua, and the impact that the Manapōuri Hydro Scheme had upon it. We are proud partners in the Trust, alongside Ngāi Tahu, and support its kaupapa centred on restoration, connection, and community.

Ka ora te whenua, ka ora te tangata: When the land is well, we are well.

Charge up somewhere worth the pit stop!

We’ve just opened a brand-new Zero site at St Kilda Café & Bistro in Cambridge, combining EV charging with one of the Waikato’s best places to relax and recharge.

📍 19 Kaniera Terrace, Cambridge
⚡ 2× 160kW + 4× 240kW DC fast charge points
🔌 CCS + CHAdeMO connectors

Set beside beautiful wetlands and park views, St Kilda is more than just a charging stop. With great coffee and plenty of room to unwind, it’s the perfect place to pause while your EV powers up. There’s even a playground and pump track right next door for the kids!

From Korean fried chicken and butter chicken pizza to homemade waffles and Sunday roasts, there’s something for everyone - whether you’re grabbing a quick bite or settling in for a proper break.

"We wanted to create a place where people can slow down, enjoy good food and take in the beautiful Waikato surroundings,” says Vik, owner of St Kilda Café & Bistro. “Having EV charging here just makes it even easier for drivers to stop and stay a while.”

Plug in, take a break, and enjoy the stop! This is one you won’t want to rush.

Clean energy can do more than keep the lights on, it can help communities thrive. 💡🌱

Meridian’s Community Decarbonisation Fund, enabled by our Certified Renewable Energy product, helps deliver community electrification projects across Aotearoa.

Certified matches a business’s electricity use with an equivalent amount of renewable electricity put into the national grid from Meridian hydro stations or wind farms. And because 100% of net proceeds go into the fund, Certified helps back practical electrification projects that reduce emissions for communities.

We've just launched our new Impact & Transparency report so you can explore the wider impact now: https://www.certifiedimpactreport.meridianenergy.co.nz/
