🚧Heads up: Road works near Te Rere Hau Wind Farm 🚧
We’re currently undertaking road works on Pahiatua Track where it intersects with North Range Road as part of our work to repower Te Rere Hau Wind Farm.

This section of Pahiatua Track will be closed from 9am to 3pm daily from 2 November to 3 December. Outside of these hours, the road will be open but subject to traffic management.

We know this is disruptive, but please respect the workers on site and follow all instructions. Reduced speed limits and temporary traffic lights are there for your safety and that of others – please don’t ignore them. A reminder that access to properties on North Range Road is provided to authorised people but not permitted to the public during the works. Please email [email protected] if you require access or have any questions.

We appreciate everyone’s patience and understanding as we work together to make this intersection safer for all users.

Shameless Te Uku Wind Farm appreciation post 💙

Perched more than 400 metres above sea level on the Wharauroa Plateau near Raglan, Te Uku is in a pretty perfect spot to catch the Waikato wind. 🌬️

Its 28 turbines have been turning that wind into renewable electricity since 2010, generating enough to power the equivalent of around 27,000 average New Zealand homes.

And those turbines share the land with a working sheep and cattle farm - proof that farming and renewable energy can make pretty good neighbours.

There’s plenty happening at ground level too. During construction, 40,000 native plants were planted across two wetland areas to help improve water quality downstream.

Wind, wetlands, livestock and 28 turbines doing their thing.

Not bad, Te Uku. Not bad at all.

📢 Announcement: plan ahead for w**d control in Ōhau B & C canals.
This weekend we'll be doing our annual application of herbicides (diquat) to control invasive w**ds such as Elodea (oxygen w**d) in the Ōhau B and C canals.
It's taking place between 8:00am and 4:30pm on Saturday 31 October 2026, conditions permitting. As a precaution, we're advising people not to swim, take fish, or take water for consumption or irrigation purposes for 24 hours after treatment.

The herbicides will be applied to a 7m strip along both banks of the canal fringe - a total of approximately nine hectares – using an aerial drone. It won't be applied within 250m upstream or 100m downstream of salmon farms and rafts, drinking water protection zones or irrigation offtakes.

This spray operation will be repeated on 28 November.

Warning signs will be placed at key public access points 24 hours prior to the planned spray dates and removed up to 24 hours after we’ve finished. If you have any questions, please call us on 0800 PUBLIC (782 542).

Old power station. New machinery. Big job. 💪

We’re giving the iconic Waitaki Power Station a major upgrade, helping ensure it can keep generating renewable electricity well into the future.

And a job like this takes some serious expertise. We’re thrilled to have Voith Hydro supplying the turbines and generators, with New Zealand-owned Gentec Solutions covering the headgates and associated works.

Waitaki Power Station is an important part of our country’s social and energy history. This upgrade will breathe new life into this much-loved asset, powering on the legacy of those who built it for decades to come.

Bringing your boat up the Waitaki Valley this Labour Weekend? Just a reminder that there’s reduced parking space in the Benmore dam top carpark.

The area on the map has been closed and will remain closed through to 2029. This means there’s less parking available if you’re wanting to use the boat ramp or access the nearby trails.

Please use another ramp or trail access point if there’s no space – don’t be tempted to park unsafely.

We're sorry about any inconvenience. We need the space for critical work to seismically strengthen the Benmore Power Station penstocks so they’re better able to cope in the event of a major rupture of the Alpine Fault.
