Starting out as a farm boy in Kaikoura, mum always said i was born with a hammer in my hand, as i was growing up there was never any doubt i would become a builder. After 12 years in the trade, I now lead my own team of extremely large boys, an interior designer wife who keeps things looking pretty, several groups of subcontractors whom I have complete trust in to do the job ri

TEN YEARS LATER…

Ten years ago, we built this home.

Earlier this year, we were invited back to refresh the feature chimney for its current owners.

It was one of those visits that reminds us why we love what we do.

The house has evolved to the life of its new people.

Last week, what was meant to be a quick stop to take a few photos turned into a much longer visit, chatting about dogs, life, and the things they love most about living here.

I left with a full cup and a renewed appreciation for what happens after the build is complete. Seeing how much people love the homes we’ve crafted after such a long time is just a pretty special thing.

Ten years ago, we built this home.

Earlier this year, we were invited back to refresh the feature chimney for its current owners.

It was one of those visits that reminds us why we love what we do.

The house has evolved to the life of its new people.

Consistency in materials is a key to designing a fully conceptualised home
In this home, the brick doesn’t stop at the front door, it runs right through the entry as well.
It’s a small detail, but it helps tie the whole build together and create a point of interest right as you come in the door.
Those are the sort of decisions that make a home feel considered, not just finished.

Further spotlight on this wonderful Halswell family home.

Warm timber, softer tones, and plenty of natural light make it a space that’s easy to live in day to day.

The green cabinetry balanced properly with the timbers brings with it lots of warmth and personality to this practical layout.
