Our Principal Consultant, Mark Nelson was recently invited to attend the official opening of Kōwhai Park Solar Farm, located adjacent to Christchurch Airport.

As one of the many advisors involved, Energy Link was proud to contribute to this significant development and celebrate the completion of a project that is now the largest solar farm in the South Island.

Kōwhai Park Solar Farm is the result of a partnership between Lightsource bp and Contact Energy, who first announced their collaboration on the project in 2023. The completed development represents a major investment in renewable infrastructure and will make a meaningful contribution to New Zealand’s electricity supply.

About Kōwhai Park:
☀️ 150MWac / 168MWdc of renewable generation capacity.
☀️ Expected to generate approximately 275GWh of electricity annually, equivalent to the annual electricity demand of around 36,000 homes.
☀️ Approximately 300,000 solar panels installed across the site.
☀️ $273 million investment.
☀️ Up to 235 people employed during peak construction.

Energy Link’s 30 year anniversary called for a day out with the team.

We headed out with Monarch Wildlife Cruises & Tours for a fantastic day on the water, and a chance to take a break from the office and celebrate together. ☀️

Reaching 30 years is a pretty special milestone and we are grateful to everyone who has supported and worked with Energy Link over the years.

𝟯𝟬 𝘆𝗲𝗮𝗿𝘀 𝗼𝗳 𝗘𝗻𝗲𝗿𝗴𝘆 𝗟𝗶𝗻𝗸
September 2026 is a milestone for us because Energy Link turns 30 years old. 🎉

Founded by Greg Sise in 1996, Energy Link has spent the past three decades working on an incredible range of projects, building strong relationships, and growing a great team along the way.

In 2019, Mark Nelson, Matt Woods, and Josh Smith become shareholders, providing succession and continuity for the next generation of the business.

We’ve been digging through the archives and have put together a few photos to celebrate. You might recognise some familiar faces - many of the people featured are still part of the Energy Link team today!

Thank you to everyone who has been part of Energy Link over the past 30 years. We look forward to continuing to work alongside our clients and team for many more years to come.

Tom Leov, Josh Smith, Tom Murphy and Mark Nelson (not pictured) attended last week's Energy Trader Forum in Wellington where there was large discussion around the future of New Zealand's gas market, particularly the LNG terminal.

One of the sessions explored LNG imports - insurance policy or market intervention? It looked at the Government's proposed LNG import solution and the potential implications for the energy market.

The forum also included updates on Future of Infrastructure and Future Gas Availability, examining the future of gas infrastructure, how gas is used across different industries, and the impacts of different gas availability scenarios on consumers, industry, and GDP.

The day concluded with a panel discussion on what electricity prices could look like in a dry year if LNG importation does not proceed, focusing on how market participants may respond and what that could mean for pricing, volatility, and risk over the next two to five years.

We look forward to the next Energy Trader Forum on the 9th December 2026.
