We keep up to date with the latest products, technology and regulations. We are happy to first discuss your needs and then offer the right advice and solution. Alcom supply all the leading brands including: Tait, Icom, Motorola, Hytera, GME and Uniden. Equipment Installation
Our technicians can install equipment into buildings, vehicles and large machines, farmland or even remote sites. Vehicle installations can be done at our Rotorua or Tokoroa workshops or at other locations such as vehicle/machine distributors or manufacturers. Channel Licencing/Programming
All radio users (other than PRS users) are required to either own their own channel or get authorisation from the owner prior to programming. We are happy to advise and manage the process for you. Repairs, maintenance & servicing
As authorised dealers for all the main brands, Alcom can repair and service all your equipment at our workshops or onsite as required. Radio hire/lease
Hiring radio equipment (radios, repeaters and a range of accessories) can be the most cost effective communication for sports events, festivals, film crews, conferences, factory shutdowns and other short or long term projects. Hiring rates start at $15 per day per radio. Weekly and monthly rates are also available. Communication system design & build

⁇ FAQ: Do I Need A Repeater?

📡 Alcom supplies radio products and services to a diverse range of customers in forestry, farming, and other industries across the rugged Central North Island. These customers depend on reliable radio communications to maintain safe and efficient operations.

In general terms, VHF radio is recommended for use in rural areas, whereas UHF is more suitable for urban or built-up areas. Simplex (line of sight) or Duplex (via repeater) are the transmission options.

🤩 CASE STUDY:

In mid-2015, Alcom installed a solar-powered digital repeater system on a rugged 1,800-hectare farm in the King Country. The installation increased radio coverage across the property from 60% (previously achieved using simplex) to 95%.

During a recent routine maintenance inspection, our technicians confirmed that the system continues to perform reliably. The only recommendation was to plan for battery replacement within the next 12–24 months. Given its current performance, we expect the repeater to continue operating reliably for many years to come.

The farmer is very pleased with the system’s performance and its positive impact on safety and productivity over the past decade.

🤩 What a fabulous day out we had while helping raise funds for the East Coast communities so badly affected by Cyclone Gabrielle

👟 The Rotorua Marathon is one of New Zealand’s most iconic and longest-running running events. Known for its scenic course around Lake Rotorua, the marathon is a major fixture on both the national running calendar and the Rotorua events calendar, attracting elite athletes, recreational runners, walkers and supporters from across New Zealand and overseas

📡 Alcom was proud to supply the radio communications for the event for the very first time, helping keep organisers, marshals and support crews connected so everything ran safely and smoothly throughout the event.
