MEMORIES IN A BOTTLE: MARCH 5, 2026

Last March 5, 2026, our Grade 12 STEM students concluded their final performance task with two sophisticated laboratory activities facilitated by their Chemistry teacher Ms. Veverly Eve Dy Watin: Maceration and Alcohol-Based Perfume Making. After a term spent mastering the IUPAC naming and skeletal structures of complex organic compounds, they finally saw those functional groups come to life!

The laboratory was a hub of scientific extraction as students worked through two distinct phases:

🌿 Activity 1: The Art of Maceration
Using various botanical samples—from aromatic herbs to vibrant flowers and citrus fruits—students performed maceration to break down plant tissues. By selecting the right solvents, they successfully extracted the essential oils and "captured" the organic molecules responsible for nature's diverse aromas.

🧪 Activity 2: Alcohol-Based Perfume Making
The students then applied their knowledge of esters, alcohols, and phenols to formulate their own fragrances. Using alcohol as a base, they balanced top and base notes, proving that naming substituents on a blackboard is just the first step toward creating something tangible and beautiful.

By the end of the day, our Grade 12 didn't just have bottles of perfume—they had a deeper mastery of how chemistry shapes our sensory world.

You’ve officially bottled the essence of STEM excellence. 🚀🎓

Big ideas, real impact 💡🌍

Our Grade 12 students showcased their Final Project and Program Proposals for DRRR—and they did not come to play. Three groups stepped up with powerful, well-thought-out programs addressing real and pressing crises in their chosen communities. Transforming their learnings into action. Guided by their DRRR Teacher Ms. Veverly Eve Dy Watin, the SHS Principal Precious Lyn B. Estarija, and BCSI admin. In coordination with Barangay San Isidro and the City Hall of General Santos City.

From identifying risks to proposing actionable solutions, these young minds proved that preparedness is not just a concept—it’s a responsibility.

We’re proud to see future leaders turning knowledge into meaningful action. 💪

Here in Brokenshire, we deliver lessons beyond the 4 corners of our classroom.
