Curious about what happened in the energy market this past week?โšก

The energy market experienced a welcome rollback in both demand and electricity prices compared to the previous week, bringing relative stability across the grid.

Electricity demand peaked at 10,562 MW on Tuesday, while electricity prices topped out at Php 5.53 per kWh on Mondayโ€”a noticeable drop from the Php 8.49 per kWh peak recorded the week before. Prices remained steadily low throughout the rest of the week, hovering between Php 4.57 and Php 5.51 per kWh.
This market easing was supported by a further decline in total derated power plant capacity down to 525.9 MW (from 590.9 MW), helping keep rates well-contained despite several plant trippings and outages.

The energy market managed to maintain stable price levels despite a significant surge in demand across the grid.

Electricity demand peaked at a high 15,410 MW on Tuesday, while electricity prices topped out at Php 8.49 per kWh on Wednesday.

Despite weekday demand consistently exceeding 15,000 MW, market rates remained well-contained between Php 6.12 and Php 8.49 per kWh. This stability was backed by improved supply capacity as total derated power plant capacity fell to 590.9 MW (down from 767.6 MW the previous week), helping buffer the impact of forced outages and plant trippings throughout the week.
