Researchers in GaW, together with colleagues from England, Italy, the Netherlands, Poland, Portugal and Spain, have spent two intensive days at the Sigtuna Foundation for a conference. The discussions regarding ongoing and future research on gender and work have been highly rewarding. Thank you to all participants!

Maria Ågren, the project leader of GaW, is to receive H.M. The King’s medal at a ceremony on September 9. This has been announced by King Carl XVI Gustaf of Sweden. Maria Ågren will receive the medal “for significant contributions within research on Swedish history”.

On June 11, a surprise party was held for GaW’s project leader, Maria Ågren, where she was presented with the Festschrift 'The Historian’s Tasks: Essays in Honour of Maria Ågren' as well as a (slightly belated) birthday cake.
The book’s editors — Karin Hassan Jansson, Jonas Lindström, and Sofia Ling — gave speeches. The chapter authors and many other friends participated either in person or digitally. Maria Ågren herself was very pleasantly surprised. Once again, we say congratulations and hooray!

The book is available for download from Uppsala University's DiVa portal.

Förra veckan hölls en överraskningsfest för GaW:s projektledare Maria Ågren, där hon fick festskriften “The Historian’s Tasks. Essays in Honour of Maria Ågren” samt (lite försenad) födelsedagstårta.

Bokens redaktörer, Karin Hassan Jansson, Jonas Lindström och Sofia Ling, höll tal. Kapitelförfattarna och många andra vänner deltog antingen fysiskt eller digitalt. Maria Ågren blev själv mycket glatt överraskad. Vi säger återigen grattis och hurra!

Ellinor Lindqvist, PhD student in Computational Linguistics, has now published her doctoral thesis, "Humble Pleas from the Archives: Automatic Analysis and Information Extraction from Historical Petitions". It is written as part of the project "Speaking to one’s superiors: Petitions as cultural heritage and sources of knowledge", which is a part of GaW.

She will defend her thesis publicly on June 12. Find out more details and download the thesis via the link below.

I sommar spelar Hammarteatern i Hallstahammar pjäsen "Horet i Hälsta". Föreställningen bygger på en sann historia och är inspirerad av boken med samma namn skriven av GaW:s båda forskningsledare Karin Hassan Jansson och Jonas Lindström. Missa inte det! :)

Året är 1685 och den unga kvinnan Anna har ensam ärvt den stora gården i Hälsta By utanför Hallstahammar. Hon gifter sig med Johan och en önskan om barn och trygghet växer fram. Men Johan är både osäker och blyg och Anna får inte komma till. På gården finns även drängen Anders och P...
