When it comes to heating a shop, the work starts long before the concrete is poured. A properly designed heated floor system is one of the most efficient and comfortable ways to heat a building, but every layer matters.
The first step is installing a poly v***r barrier with every seam carefully taped. This helps prevent ground moisture from migrating into the slab and protects the system for years to come.
Next, we install Halo Subterra, a 2-inch graphite polystyrene insulation board with an R-value of 10. This high-performance insulation keeps heat where it belongs—in your building instead of disappearing into the ground. Around the entire perimeter, we install the foam vertically to minimize heat loss at the slab edge, one of the biggest sources of energy loss in heated concrete floors.
Once the insulation is complete, it's time for the hydronic tubing. Our tubing is laid out on a consistent 10-inch on-center pattern throughout the entire building to provide even heat distribution with no cold spots. Every loop is routed back to a wall-mounted manifold, making the system organized, easy to service, and ready for connection to a boiler.
The result is a heating system that delivers consistent warmth from the ground up. Unlike forced-air systems, in-floor hydronic heat eliminates drafts, reduces dust circulation, operates quietly, and provides even temperatures across the entire shop.
