Project update: Wesleyan University Fries Arts Building

Art, performance, and innovation come together at Wesleyan University’s new Fries Arts Building. Acentech partnered with Bruner/Cott to provide audiovisual design for this dynamic interdisciplinary hub. The flexible, accessible performance environment integrates contemporary technology within the original historic structure. The black box theater accommodates performances, rehearsals, classes, lectures, and special events. Our scope included the design of video projection systems, sound reinforcement for speech and playback, and integrated AV recording and streaming, enabling the space to adapt easily to varying staging and technical requirements. We are proud to help shape a learning environment where creativity and learning can thrive!

Designed to foster collaboration and breakthrough innovation, the TMC3 Collaborative Building at Houston’s Helix Park brings together researchers, clinicians, and industry leaders in a dynamic shared environment.

Acentech provided building acoustics and mechanical system noise control consulting to help create spaces that support focus, connection, and occupant comfort—from the dramatic central atrium to research, meeting, and wellness spaces. We’re proud to contribute to this Elkus Manfredi Architects-designed facility, one that promotes advanced health and life sciences through thoughtful, people-centered design.

It’s an exciting week in Philadelphia, where the Acoustical Society of America (ASA) is holding its biannual conference and the National Council of Acoustical Consultants (NCAC) gathered to mark its 64th anniversary – founded here in Philly – and to honor one of Acentech’s own.

We’re especially proud to celebrate former Acentech president Carl Rosenberg, FASA, who received the Paul B***r Award for outstanding contributions to the science of acoustics. Carl’s remarkable career as a teacher, scientist, administrator, and leader reflects the very highest standards of the profession. Acentech president Ben Markham, FASA, was honored to celebrate Carl at the NCAC awards ceremony.

At the ASA meeting, several Acentech experts also shared their work with the acoustical community:

“Quantifying Trade-Offs Between Acoustic Absorption and Embodied Carbon in Interior Treatments,” written by Milena Jonas Bem and Kristen Murphy, and presented by Kristen Murphy

“Well! Now!” – A Legacy of Curiosity, Enthusiasm, and Kindness,” a tribute to acoustician and professor Robert Coffeen, presented by Liz Lamour Croteau, CTS-D

“What the Orchestra Needs and How Acousticians Can Help” and “Signal-to-Noise Ratio in Restaurants: Fine Lines Between Terrific and Terrible Dining Experiences,” presented by Brandon Cudequest

‘Teaching Acoustics Through Comparative Listening in Real and Auralized Spaces,’ presented by Kelsey Rogers

We’re proud of our colleagues for advancing conversations around acoustics, sustainability, performance, and the human experience of sound.

Congratulations to all on a wonderful week of recognition and knowledge-sharing!
