UV lamps inhibit mold growth but don’t effectively kill it. Typically they’re sold as a cure all when mildew/mold is in the conversation. Companies will install them and charge you a premium and leave. If you don’t clean and sanitize the growth areas before installing a uv lamp they don’t do all that much for your mildew/mold issue or your air quality. This would be like responding to house fire and not putting out the fire but putting in fire extinguishers.

Hurricane season is unfortunately underway so now is a good time to talk about soft start kits. What does an AC accessory have to do with hurricane season? Your AC will not run on portable generators unless it’s a large enough generator to handle the startup amps (like a whole home generator). A soft start kit lowers start up amps by about 60-70% allowing you to run your AC on a smaller portable generator in the event of a hurricane or an extended power outage.

We have one on our personal 3.5 ton AC unit and used it during hurricane Milton with a 9500W/ 7500 portable generator. The soft start kit also helps lower energy bills and extend compressor overall life as well.

Picture shows the starting Amps at 40 with our soft start kit. Before we put the soft start kit it was around 120 Amps.

What can help is changing your filters and having a thorough cleaning during an AC preventative maintenance. We ALWAYS take the extra time to clean and sanitize your AC cabinet during every maintenance.

Why do you need a preventative maintenance if you suck your own drain line and change filters?

Checking refrigerant pressures and understanding them can detect other major issues like a sneaky, slow leaking evaporator coil before you notice your system not keeping up and needing an emergency service call. Saving you from having to be hot and uncomfortable.

This leak was caught on a preventative maintenance and the customer had not begun to notice poor performance out of the unit yet and now they won’t have to. While the repair is on the more expensive side, our customer will get a 10% discount of their bill for being a maintenance plan member.
