We're proud to be part of the restoration of The Assembly (Kroger South Building), located off Cleveland Avenue in Columbus, Ohio!

Our team at HK Phillips Masonry is hard at work restoring and preserving this building's masonry while maintaining its architectural character.

Our scope of work includes:
- Complete stone and steel lintel replacement at all window headers
- 100% tuckpointing of terra cotta
- Paint stripping of terra cotta
- Concrete patching
- Chemical cleaning of brick and terra cotta
- Reglazing of terra cotta

From detailed terra cotta restoration to critical masonry repairs, every step of this project reflects our commitment to quality craftsmanship and attention to detail.

Precision matters. 🧱🔨

Our team recently completed a step replacement project at the New Albany Country Club that required careful planning from start to finish.

We began by removing the existing steps and railing. Once the new steps were ready, we precisely measured and drilled each opening so the railing spindles would line up correctly. The new steps then had to be carefully lifted, positioned over the spindles, and lowered into place.

From there, our crew made sure everything was level, properly aligned, and exactly where it needed to be before finishing the installation with mortar.

Projects like this are a great example of the detail that goes into quality masonry work. When existing features need to be incorporated into something new, every measurement counts.

Our team recently completed a specialized training course through Cathedral Stone focused on historic masonry patching — and we’re proud to share that our guys are now certified in Historic Masonry Patching.

Historic masonry requires a different level of knowledge, patience, and attention to detail. Learning the proper techniques for repairing and preserving historic materials helps us continue providing the quality craftsmanship that these buildings deserve.

Every great masonry project starts with a solid foundation.

Our crew is on-site carefully demolishing and removing the existing stone around this pool to prepare for a brand-new wall to be built. Taking the time to properly remove old materials and prepare the area ensures the new wall will be built to last.

A little different view of masonry work today.

Our team is performing routine exterior maintenance on a historic building along West Broad Street in Columbus. To safely access all areas of the structure, our team member Jason, is utilizing rope access to inspect the building façade from top to bottom.

During the inspection, we're evaluating:
✔ Brick and masonry conditions
✔ Mortar joints in need of tuckpointing
✔ Caulking and sealant failures
✔ Areas of water infiltration
✔ General exterior maintenance needs

Historic buildings require a proactive approach to preserve their character and prevent small issues from becoming costly repairs. We're proud to help maintain some of Columbus's most recognizable structures.

Drone imagery gives us a unique perspective of the project and helps document existing conditions while planning repairs.

There’s something special about projects that truly blend craftsmanship with the natural beauty of the property — and this one in Galena was exactly that.

Our crew recently completed a beautiful 2-tier retaining wall at this incredible home, and one of the coolest parts of the project was the material itself. The stone used throughout the wall was actually pulled directly from the river running through the homeowner’s backyard, giving the finished product a natural look that fits the property perfectly and tells a story you simply can’t recreate with manufactured materials.

Projects like this take vision, patience, and a hardworking team to bring everything together the right way. Huge credit goes to our crew for the attention to detail, long hours, and pride they put into every phase of this build. From carefully handling and placing each piece of stone to shaping the final layout of the retaining walls, the craftsmanship really shows in the finished result.

It’s always rewarding to work on unique properties like this and create something that not only serves a purpose, but also enhances the character and beauty of the home for years to come.

We’re proud to be back in Indiana completing a project that’s been years in the making.

Our crew has returned to the Lincoln Memorial Bridge in Vincennes to begin the meticulous process of reinstalling the original granite we carefully removed in 2024. Every stone was precisely labeled, documented, and stored with intention—knowing that this phase would demand exact accuracy.

Now, that precision is paying off. Each granite piece must be matched back to its exact original location and set flawlessly to ensure the integrity and alignment of the entire structure. This level of craftsmanship requires patience, skill, and an incredible attention to detail from our team.

We’re honored to be part of preserving such an important structure and proud of the dedication our crew brings to every step of the process.

Proud to show off this complete chimney build we just finished in Dublin!

From the ground up, this one was done right. We started by forming and pouring a solid base, then carefully built up the chimney using firebrick, followed by block and ceramic flue liners to ensure long-term durability and performance.

The final result? An absolutely gorgeous chimney that’s built to last for years to come.

Huge shoutout to our crew—Joan, Mason, and Wyatt—for their craftsmanship and attention to detail on this one. The pride they put into their work truly shows in the finished product.
