It's officially September and pumpkin spice season is back. So, it's fall now.. right? 🍂

Not quite. With many parts of the country still facing extreme heat, and peak demand season still in full swing, energy usage for many organizations is still at summer highs.

While everyone else is enjoying their favorite fall drink, facility and energy teams are still focused on keeping occupants comfortable while controlling costs and maintaining efficiency. How is your organization balancing comfort and energy performance as summer hangs on?

As we *hopefully* begin to enter the shoulder months, now is the time to identify opportunities to reduce energy costs before peak winter demand arrives. If your organization could benefit from uncovering efficiency opportunities and improving building performance year-round, contact Mantis Innovation to start the conversation: https://hubs.la/Q04wJrgB0

A note from the field: Most visitors will never see your roof, but they will see your parking lot. 🚗

It's one of the first things employees, customers, tenants, patients, and guests interact with when they arrive at a facility. Yet it's also one of the assets that can quietly deteriorate until repairs become difficult to ignore.

Faded striping, drainage issues, damaged curbs, and deteriorating asphalt rarely develop overnight. More often, they're conditions that have progressed over time.

As facility teams begin planning for the year ahead, pavement conditions often come back into focus. A repair completed at the right time can look very different than a larger rehabilitation project a few years later. Like many facility assets, visibility into condition and risk helps organizations make more informed decisions about when to act.

Mantis Innovation helps organizations assess pavement conditions, prioritize repairs, and build long-term facility investment strategies across their portfolios.

Successful facility upgrades aren't one-size-fits-all.

At the University of Hartford, Mantis partnered with campus leaders to implement a comprehensive LED lighting and controls upgrade designed to support energy savings, sustainability goals, and long-term operational performance.

One takeaway from the project comes directly from the client: "They provided recommendations that were suitable for each unique space and worked efficiently within the structure of a campus setting."

AI is changing how organizations operate, but it's also changing the demands placed on the facilities behind the digital world.

In our latest article, we break down five trends shaping data center facility performance and energy optimization: https://hubs.la/Q04vc8qd0

As AI workloads grow, data center leaders are balancing more than energy efficiency. Power availability, cooling capacity, infrastructure reliability, sustainability goals, and long-term capital planning are all becoming part of the same conversation.

Success increasingly depends on having the right data to understand facility performance, identify risks, and make informed investment decisions before constraints impact growth.

The pressure on data center operators has never been greater. Organizations face unprecedented demand for cloud services, digital applications, and artificial intelligence workloads.

📓 Field Note: Budget planning season has a way of focusing attention on the assets that have been quietly sitting on everyone's watch list:
• An aging RTU
• A roof section that's nearing the end of its useful life
• Pavement that's been repaired several times and is becoming more difficult to maintain

Most organizations already know where these concerns exist. What often drives the conversation is understanding which items present the greatest operational or financial risk if another budget cycle passes without action.

As planning for 2027 begins, facility condition data, asset inventories, and capital forecasts become increasingly valuable tools for prioritization.

“A good safety program is proactive, not reactive.”

That's a simple idea, but an important one.

As Dave Greene explains, building a strong safety culture takes more than policies and procedures. It requires training, risk awareness, and a shared commitment from every team member to identify hazards before they become incidents.

At Mantis Innovation, safety is a core value that shapes how we work across projects, teams, and client sites. Through ongoing training, open communication, and a proactive approach to risk management, we're committed to helping our people work safely every day.

Reducing energy costs is important, but it's only part of the value an energy management system can deliver.

Modern EMS technology gives facility teams greater visibility into their operations, helping them spot issues earlier, support proactive maintenance, improve occupant comfort, and make better decisions across the built environment. For organizations looking to maximize the performance of existing assets, those benefits can be just as valuable as the energy savings themselves.

Facility leaders face increasing pressure to do more with less. Utility costs remain volatile, aging infrastructure introduces operational risk, and capital budgets face growing scrutiny.
