Project Update: Bison Building at the Kansas State Fairgrounds

Progress inside the Bison Building is moving full speed ahead. Framing is going up, walls are taking shape, and the infrastructure that will support this space is coming together piece by piece.

What’s starting to emerge is more than just a building—it’s the foundation for a place where people will gather, learn, and exchange ideas that move agriculture forward in Kansas.

As this Agricultural Innovation Building continues to transform, you can already see the vision coming to life: a space designed to connect industries, spark conversations, and create opportunities for the future.

Meet Wyatt!

In just 7 months with Wiens & Company, Wyatt has already become a valued part of our team. He was recently promoted to Carpenter on the Stroup Hall project at Fort Hays State University, helping bring an important project to life for the future of healthcare education.

What Wyatt appreciates most is the variety of projects, the support of the team, and how Wiens & Company takes care of employees like family.

Outside of work, Wyatt enjoys being outdoors and spending time with his family, including his 5-month-old daughter. His goals are to build a strong future for his family: to buy a home, get married, and give his family everything he never had growing up.

We’re proud to have Wyatt on our crew and grateful to be part of the future he’s working hard to build.

The next generation of construction experts is already getting started.

Through Construction Days, high school students get the chance to explore careers in construction, connect with our team, and experience the kind of hands-on work that shapes real projects.

For Sam, that day became something more.

It started with a job site visit, real skills, and a closer look at the industry. Then came an application. Then an opportunity: Sam will join our team this summer.

We’re proud to build a culture where students can learn, work hard, and find a path they’re excited about.

Relationships in the communities we serve matter to our team.

One of our favorite ways to stay connected is when we’re able to host High School Construction Days for students in districts where we’ve completed projects.

At Little River, students from Little River USD 444 and St. John came together for a day of friendly competition, hands-on construction skills, and plenty of school pride.

Over the years, we’ve hired many high school students through Construction Days with our partner districts, and we’re continually encouraged by the hard work, curiosity, and heart they bring as they build their futures.

Stroup Hall is moving forward, one detail at a time.

From the stonework on the exterior to the roofing, framing, and steel stair installation inside, the future home for Fort Hays State University’s nursing and medical diagnostic imaging programs is continuing to come together.

Projects like this are exciting because they represent more than a new building. Stroup Hall will help prepare future healthcare professionals who will go on to serve communities across Kansas and beyond.

At Construction Day, students don’t just hear about what it’s like to work in construction; they experience it.

From walking active job sites like the Bison Arena project on the Kansas State Fairgrounds to getting hands-on with equipment and competing in our GOAT House build, they gain real skills, real insight, and real confidence.

They leave with a better understanding of how construction works, what opportunities exist after graduation, and how they can get started.

The Hutchinson Public Library basement remodel is underway.

We’re grateful for the opportunity to help create a safer, more functional space for library staff and patrons while expanding what the library can offer the community. This remodel will grow the Makerspace and support a wider range of services, including larger-scale CNC milling, laser cutting, a paint booth, and other improvements.

The project will also update staff office areas to better support current workflows and day-to-day operations.

We’re proud to be part of a project that helps the library continue to serve Hutchinson in new and practical ways.

Phase 2 of the Bison Arena at the Kansas State Fairgrounds is well underway.

This space is being transformed into the new Agricultural Innovation Building, creating a modern facility that will serve the ag community for years to come.

As work continues, the building is starting to take shape as a place where fairgoers can learn more about the agriculture industry that fuels our state.

We’re proud to help prepare this space to welcome visitors for the 2026 Kansas State Fair in Hutchinson.
