Grateful to be part of Belinda Stewart Architects, PA team on this project.
Madison the City has been awarded a 2026 America 250 Heritage Award in recognition of preserving the former Madison-Ridgeland School and converting it to City Hall. Alan Hoops accepted the award from the Mississippi Heritage Trust and presented it to Mayor Mary Hawkins Butler. The Mississippi Heritage Trust works to save and renew places meaningful to Mississippians and their history.
Built in 1910 as a two-story schoolhouse, the Madison-Ridgeland Public School underwent additions in 1922, 1936, and the 1960s. The school is architecturally important as the earliest known use of the Jacobethan Revival style, the 1920 era’s most fashionable school design. The building is designated a Mississippi Landmark and is on the National Register of Historic Places.
